My retired father loves to haunt the local wreckers for "treasures". He's found several ipods, phones, cameras etc. The other day he found these:

A one pound weight. I don't know if it's pure lead or not, but it is pretty soft.

And a bag with about 22lb of reclaimed shot.

Anyboby know what typical shot composition is?

Should make for a few 147gr 9mm's.

WW's also have arsenic.
Pretty much any alloy that has antimony in it, and some that are just lead and tin, have arsenic. The metals don't alloy properly without it.
Unless all you cast is pure lead, you've been handling alloys with arsenic in it the entire time you've been casting.

It's trace amounts of it, less than a tenth of a percent.
Arsenic also allows lead to age harden over the first couple months after casting.

I believe pure linotype is arsenic free but I'm not sure.

Thanks much LUTNIT.
Did not know about the age hardening properties either.
Hopefully, this along with water quenching will help to up the vels. achievable with the rifle boolits.

I guess the actual composition of shot depends on the size. This looks to be 6 or 7-1/2, so probably around 4% antimony. Think I'll save it for hardening my WW.

It depends more on the application.

Cheap shot has very little alloying. "Chilled" shot has some, 2-3% antimony. "Magnum" shot is 5-6% antimony.

Most of the volume of shot used at gun clubs is in economy factory target loads. This would be cheap shot.
