Trap Throwers

Try Jeremy Hutchings, 780-941-4226. I believe he has used machines from time to time and may also sell new ones.

Graham Perry at 306-544-2999 is the Canadian distributor for Matterelli trap machines.

If you are looking for new machines, Promatic has the best selection. www.promatic.biz or call 1-888-767-2529 and ask for Linda Stotts.

If you have budget restrictions and might want a 3/4 #### trap, call Lincoln at 717-274-8676 and ask for Danette or Cheryl. These are excellent quality, flexible machines. They also make auto traps but I have not used these.

You could try Western Retro Products, 250 216 8937 in Victoria. They sell refurbished Winchester Western automatic traps.
They also have a web site.

Atlas traps from the US are a good bargain. They come in duty free because they are made there.

Real work horse. I have a 250 which I use on our 5 stand. Been going strong for 4-5 tears now. No problem.

The general consensus around trap ranges is that Pat Traps are the best, prolly pricey but the best none the less, and i don't know your budget.

Pat Traps throw nice consistent targets, they hold 4 cases of targets and it is easy to change from singles to doubles. End of advantages!!! We have 1 Pat Trap, 3 Auto Sporter, 10 Promatics and 1 old Western. The Pat Trap requires more service and attention than all other machines combined. It is an electro-hydraulic device and contains about 12 limits switches many of which need to be adjusted within a few thousands of an inch in addition to a flow control valve and the elevator rate control valve. They are known to not function well at temperatures below 5C even using 0W oil as recommended by Pat Trap or ATF thinned with kerosene. One dealer I talked to in the Southern USA was surprised that Pat Traps worked that far north. The instruction manual is next to useless as is the electrical schematic. We always make sure we have a backup machine if we intend to use our Pat Trap for an event. You can buy 2 wobble traps from others for the price of a Pat Trap. If you intend to set up 5-stand or sporting clays or want any kind of flexibility, Pat Trap is not the way to go.

All the big clubs in Arizona, where they throw alot of birds use Pat Traps as I have checked into this as I am in the market for one.At my home club in Casa Grande, they won't even think of another make, I'm also a member of the huge Tucson club and they use Pat traps exclusively on their 40 or so trap fields.

Salter, how old is your Pat? Newer machines have been updated, especially in the area of hydraulic fluid issues. All the clubs around here are replacing old Pats with new Pats and replacing other machines with Pats. How many different folks do you have adjusting your machines? My understanding is that once those micro switches are set, they rarely, if ever should be moved.

Beretta 687:- To be fair, it is an older SW series. There are just 2 of us who do maintenance on it. At the end of the day, we just don't try and use it until temperatures get at least +15C and rely on our other machines when we shoot on colder days. I guess it isn't that big an issue for us as we have mostly migrated to a 5-Stand & Sporting Clays club and rarely shoot trap.
Have a good day.

my club just purchased a new Pat trap wobble and I can tell you the feedback has been: This is the cat's ...."-They love it.
It cost approximately $8300 delivered from the United States with all brokerage fees and taxes in.

It depends on what he wants it for. A Pat trap is a huge investment.

If it's sporting clays he's doing, or just fooling around, the Atlas is ideal. If it's more precise, then that's another situation.

We have 2 autoporters on our trap fields, and they are very good, but sadly, I don't think you can buy them any more. They were an excellent Canadian made machine.
