I'm wondering how common these are in Canada, I've only "seen" one and if it had been a standard (vs. magnum) caliber I'd have bought it. I'd love to find one in 280 and there are a few other cartridges I'd be totally satisfied with! Any feedback from those who have had one on overall quality, accuracy and stock fit, say vs. a standard mountain rifle.

I have had quite a few in my hands and would say they are fine. I would not pay the current pricing for one as they are par with a build. If they sold for $1800 I'd be interested.
I have only seen 2 non-magnums ever, one was a .280 I ordered back in 2000 for a customer. I had left retail and gotten married when it finally arrived for him (roughly 20 months).
I'd buy an action and start a build rather.

I haven't handled the KS stock but understand they are very close to a mtn rifle stock with a bit more forearm and grip diameter, which I think should be about perfect for me.
They (KS) are fairly common in the states used, seem to run for somewhere about 1K, and quite common in std calibers.

That would be the way to go about it. Maybe contact Archie C James on here; I sold him a KS stock not to long ago and believe he maybe up to parting with it.

I've only handled one - a .300 Win Mag - and if my memory serves me correctly the proportions were similar to a 700 Mtn Rifle. It was quite light and I liked the way it balanced. IIRC some of them came with a Brown Precision stock while others came with a McMillan stock. I also believe the McMillan stock is actually what they now call a "standard" fill. I'd be tempted to send McMillan an email and ask for details about the pattern and fill.

I've only owned 1 Remington Custom Shop rifle - a Custom C Grade BDL - and have to say that I would not pay anywhere near what they are asking new for one of those. It was nice, but as mentioned you could do a build for much less. On the other hand they seem to be a pretty good deal used.

Here is a McMillan KS for sale that I know weighs 27oz.

The Mickey KS's for Remington was a special for them fill. It was lighter and pre Edge. They will not do that fill anymore and any KS stock ordered without the EDGE touch will come standard fill. I know because McMillan told me, and its also now sticky'd on the campfire.
A standard fill painted KS stock weighs 32oz now.
