Average failures to fire in surplus ammo?

None so far, i do have some Iranian 8mm Mauser thats a bit late to fire, there's a definitive click-bang compared to my reloads for it but the x39 stuff, no issues out of Mosins and SKS's

It seems commercial ammo is fine but hard military primers are causing issue? Strip the bolt down and clean it well not hard at all. You may still have a spring or firing pin issue like my cz did when I got it.
The only surplus I have issue with is Czech x25 in my tt33. Awful FTf rate and many need a second strike

I've had zero FTF in 7.62x39 while going through ~5,000 Chinese rounds. Likewise with 7.62x54R.

My son had one FTF in Norinco 7.62x51 in his Norc M14. The primer was backed out and the head of the cartridge was blackened. Discovered that there was no primer hole after pulling the cartridge apart. No damage to the bolt face.

I find czech suplus 7.62x39 to be the best myself. Try to find the most recent batch year wise. I know wholesale in GP had or may still have some czech 7.62x39 for $299, 1200 rounds on stripper clips with a nice little box. Not super cheap but stripper clips and I think its 1990 manufacture. Either way its good ammo. Not promoting wholesale as I like Bartons but it is what it is.

"...What is considered an acceptable failure..." None. Does the rifle fire properly with other ammo? If so, did you clean the bolt?
I suspect that ammo may not actually be surplus. Military ammo is loaded so it is 100% reliable. Possibly loaded specifically for commercial sale.

I agree that the Czech stuff is good. I wish I had bought more when I was getting cases for $160/case. Those seven cases disappeared in a hurry!
