some prices are done by the job, others are billed at by the hour. there are man costs and then machine costs..........grab your Brownell's catalog and flip to the index. It will give you the shop rates average lows and highs for numerous jobs. Stock work and machine work often are different rates as is metal finishing, heck even the difference in rates from working on pistols, shotguns or rifles is all over the map

My experience, ~$60 an hour. But it does depend what's done.

You need 2 rates, a gunsmith rate of say $100/hr, and a chit chat rate of $200/hr.

LOL You'll be happy to know that if this plan sees the light of day, I'm working on something that might just help you out there. That's all I'm saying about it right now.

some gun shops provide workshop space in their business for a Gunsmith, and take a % of the income the Gunsmith makes. Bill Leeper once did this in Guncraft Calgary I believe.
