AVS36: Cross between SVT40 and SKS

Basically, this looks like an SKS, rebarrelled with an SVT barrel.

It had to be rebarrelled to chamber 7.62x54R

Given that its a fake, and the SVT mag body is just welded on, there's no reason to think its rechambered. An SVT barrel should be significantly longer, shouldn't it? Besides, how would you rechamber an SKS for 7.62 x 54? The action couldn't handle a cartridge that long.

The barrel knox looks exactly like the SKS so its not a rebarrel. The SKS action in not long enough for the x54R rounds.

You could rechamber the SKS barrel to take the x54R rounds but I don't think there is enough meat around the barrel knox to (safely) take the increased strain.

wood forestock has an odd barrel band on it (2 pieces) and the cleaning rod sticks out of this strange mid barrel band. it just looks all wrong.

Just a dressed up SKS from what I can see.


I'm working up a bastardized SKS myself but I won't be trying ot pass it off as anything but a bastardized SKS.

This post is bothering me. It does look like a bubba SKS but why is the bolt cover stamped 1942 if the SKS was made after 1945????????????????

My apologies for the confusion I created.

In my photalbums, I found two more pics of the same rifle. Strangely, the stampings on the receiver are in Latin alphabet (rather than Cyrillic). Can someone shed some light ?

I should have known better . AVS36 rifle production ended in 1940.

The reciever marks are fake forsure. But the cover looks pretty real
