I was just on Ruger's site and they are now chambering the No.1 S in 9.3x74! I think that is great news, a classy caliber in a great rifle. Now all they need to do is bring back the .300 H&H and .404 Jeffery.:D

I heard this on HS a few months ago.

I don't see why they picked that one? Why not one of the other rimless 9.3's?
Not that I have anything against the x74, just the rim is pointless for the R#1.

I'm really out of the loop.:(

The 74R is loaded to low pressure for use in double rifles. If you felt like hopping it up I am sure a little research could find the velocity potential for that case at 60,000psi

Then again 286g at 2400 is problably good enough for nearly everything on the planet.

safari rifle yes, not a guide gun, remember guides are those of us that have to go in after someone elses wounded animal or finish a animal on the run ...but hey kudos to ruger for getting with the program :)

never guided have you? :D don;t know one that would ever carry a single shot :D
OK OK - trapper then, I also have a hunting partner who can shoot his .300wm #1 faster than I can shoot my bolt. Single shot, Bingle dot, rear ejecting - rear loading is fast once practised. I do agree, maybe a little overstated as a guide gun.

Just got an email and supposedly the Canadian distributor is not listing the No.1 in 9.3x74R

I own one new in the box, its a bit of a problem getting ammo for it.
Funny thing was I went to a local gun store to get some ammo for it, the sales guy says to me do you want to sell it I said no I just want some ammo have been able to pick up ammo at the local gun shows so will have to take it out for a whirl one of these days.

I just got the 2006 Ruger Catalog and they are listing the 9.3X74R in the #1H - tropical variant. Should be a good one, but not sure how many 9.3 bullets are available to the reloader. I got one in a 405 Winchester, and even there, few bullets available. They brought it out in 2004, I believe.
