i am looking for a coyote and smaller rifle, possibly a wolf if one dumb enough to get close.
caliber is going to be a 223 or a 22-250 and there is a very good chance that it is going to be ackley improved after i get it.
so question is....
which one of the three has rmours been heard of or have been shot,or just general good or bad feelings are felt for any of the above mentioned rifles?
the weatherby is the varminter special and not the howa/weatherby axiom.
thanxs for your time
:)

I have used a savage 16flss in .223 with an accutrigger for the last 3 years for my main coyote calling gun. I use a 55 gr vmax/23.3 gr.h322 for 3000 fps, 3/4" 5 shot @ 100 m. I have killed 273 coyotes, 2 wolves and 5 wild boars with this set-up. turns out a little light for the wolves and boars (but still does o.k), and I limit myself to a maximum of 300 yards on coyotes. The vast majority have been taken at less than 75 yards. I like it! It's was not expensive, it is very durable, and it worked good for me right out of the box. I don't think you would go wrong with a savage.

When I handle my Vanguard I can't help noticing how much gun it is for the money, and how well it stacks up against my more expensive rifles. When I handle my savages, I can't help wondering if they finished building it before they shoved it in a box.

Bolts that feel like they are going to fall out when you work the action, a 3 piece firing pin that is easy to assemble wrong, enough clearance around the firing pin hole to throw a cat through, a bolt held together with a bolt that likes to loosen, a bolt handle held on by the same bolt, some sort of fabulous horseshoe barely hanging onto the back of the bolt, and miscellanious working parts sticking out here and there that don't need to be sticking out anywhere. The accutrigger is needlessly complicated, but certainly useable.
The Vanguard is a remarkably slick, solid, smooth and well finished for a $500 gun, or maybe even for a $1000 gun. The trigger sucks, and you may or may not be able to get it to your likeing. I changed mine to a Timney. One of my Savages got changed to a Sharpshooter.

I was originally looking for a 223 in a leftie Savage but none were to be had and nobody could tell me if they would even see any. Bought a CZ527 and stopped looking. Expensive yes but so nicely put together. Had no trouble finding one in both the cal and a leftie. Plus it is a miniMauser short action. I had one in 3 days. Easily Sako quality for build and so nice to look at. I have a CZ452 22lr in a leftie too and both are a huge delight to shoot and make me look good. At least I tried but came up empty.
Would have been nice to save a chunk of money but then again I have never seen one for sale either so I guess I made the right choice. I really like the set trigger too and have not even bothered to adjust the trigger yet.
