Phuck Yea ! Even a 22 LR !I bet a handgun would have worked better than punching a bear.

And as someone who has a huge hematoma in the knee cap area and was given morphine, then hydromorphone to tough it out for weeks, a failed drainage with a needle and failed freezing of the area before the needle attempt(granted a gp in another office failed also but at least he succeeded with the freezing). Just beginning to walk after 11 days. Saw a dr twice and now no more availability I have to say some truth here. .Relax… it was simply a commentary on the sad state of our healthcare and if this was in fact the case certainly would not be surprising . It is rare though that someone dies of a blot clot while in hospital care …
Treadwell was an American. Herrero is Canadian. UofC IIRCCareful, I heard this was 'Ghost' written by Timothy Treadwell.
I guess we now have an answer to the question, "Who needs a SA for hunting?" ....... well the guy who didn't manage to kill a Grizzly with a bolt action and ended up dead as a result of not enough firepower. The man did have a gun, I assume a bolt action rifle. If it had been a semi auto, he might have gotten a second and even a third shot in and stopped the whole attack. But of course no one but a policeman or soldier needs a gun in Canada in the first place.
I dont know who he is but i know that an wound care specialist ruined the libes of 21!patients myself included over him thinking he was god and able to perform mircals which he could not cost me almost a whlole foot and 5.5 years of my life taken from me. Was in hospital for 7 months fighting to save my leg all over an incompetent foreign doctor which our system allowed to practice in canada. My nurses were for the most part awsome except for three they would #### up give me wrong meds did not have a clienhiw to give an injection i am to the point now if your not white I ask where were you medically trained if not in canada or the us there told leave and send an canadian birn and trained doctor or #### off that iam outa hereWho the H*LL are you to make a statement liken that ? WERE you there in that hospital along with the doctors and nurses and and you know All the injuries this fellow had ? Pretty bold with no evidence statement You just made![]()
Some folks go through life not knowing that there are susceptible to blood clots. There are many medical issues such as Factor 2 Mutation and Factor five Leiden just to name a couple. There are drugs, things like heparin or Lovenox that can help in the prevention of clots.....and his head was in its jaw at one point.
Poor guy was probably having nightmares about this. Brutal. Rest in peace.
Dying of a blood clot while in the hospital, most likely in intensive care, seems a little odd, no?
Or apixaban and if used can cause this with the slightest injury so not used when an operation is intended. Some folks go through life not knowing that there are susceptible to blood clots. I know some people enamoured of Charlie Russell, they went to see him speak and they would sing Kombaya about Grizzly Bears. Then he had an encounter with a predatory Black Bear in his yard....I agree-ish. You need to instantly assess if it is a defensive attack or a predatory attack.
If it's defensive and you have no way of quickly stopping the bear, play dead.
If it's predatory and you have no way of quickly stopping the bear, fight back with everything you have.
BTW "no way of quickly stopping the bear" = A suitable gun that you are well trained in its use.................
For references I prefer Gary Shelton. By Edition 3 Herrerro has gone pretty woke.
I met the bear author Charlie Russell on a flight into Kamchatka. I'd read his book and found it very woke. When he learned I was a professional field geologist he asked me if I'd read his book and I pretended that I hadn't and depended on Herrero and even more on Shelton for teaching my staff.
He was very crestfallen.........
I'm a bad person sometimes.......

I wouldn't bet money on that .Careful, I heard this was 'Ghost' written by Timothy Treadwell.

Not being mauled to death by a grizzly seems like a pretty good reason to take a SA hunting.
At Cassiar in northern BC the Kaska Dene warned us to be very, very careful after firing a shot as the grizzlies would come in looking to take either the kill or claim the gut pile. They were very explicit that one person dress the game and the second person be on watch with their rifle.this exactly why I often hunted with a modified M14 type rifle in grizzly country.
In my favorite blacktail hunting location in the headwater region of the lillooet river, we were warned/advised by an area CO to be very vigilant for grizzly bears in that specific area as we are close to the alpine. Numbers are rising since the misguided hunting ban. The plan was to build a stag rifle in 338 federal but instead i carry the 7mm rem mag. Only 3 shots in the internal mag so if sh*t happens it probably won't be a good outcome.
Saw a guy on an ATV with a stag the other day..... i was curious if he was a member here but he said he didn't do forums. He knew full well about the bans and didn't give "2 sh*ts" as he said , followed by "f*ck those liberal c*cksuckers LOL He appeared to be in his late 20's and was riding the backcountry on his atv..... good for him.
So far just in region 5 over the past 17 days, I've seen 3 grizzlies. 2 from a distance with the spotting scope, high on the hillsides near the south side of Windy Mnt and one the other day at about 400 yards below us in the drainage, while we hunted a ridge line for mulies. It was heading opposite of where we were heading so we just sat for a while and watched it till it was gone. Updraft kept our scent away from it so we were not to concerned but still.... from seeing no grizzly bears over the course of all my time spent recreating and then living here to seeing 3 different bears over a span of a little over 2 weeks? We saw no deer sign in that area which we figured they left the valley due to the large predator in the area.
I see one almost every time i ride my sxs behind my house here in the kootenays,.................. population explosion since the ban on grizzly hunting!!Grizzlies are completely out of control in BC. They're highly prolific and they've figured out that Peoplekind have given up their spot as Top Dog.
My cousin did approximately 2 hours after being sent home from Langley Hospital Emergency department.....and his head was in its jaw at one point.
Poor guy was probably having nightmares about this. Brutal. Rest in peace.

He was probably shaking and hit low to the left.Sad end in this case.
I am by no means knocking this fellow, but having seen the pictures of the dead grizzly, I find myself asking just how does one manage to inflict a wound of this nature (was eventually fatal - sepsis) when firing at a charging face on grizzly??

He should have applied to carry a heavy/bear handgun in that area of the Province at this time of year.I bet a handgun would have worked better than punching a bear.
