B.C Roads, Undefined, 4x4, "Single" lane logging roads. What are legal to shoot on?

B.C Roads, Undefined, 4x4, "Single" lane logging roads. What are legal to shoot on?

I have read through the regs and looked up several forms online about what roads are legal to shoot from with no real agreed apon answer. Obviously highways and secondary highways arnt aloud to be shot on or right next to but what about "Undefined 4x4 roads", "Single" lane logging roads, and roads that are number such as "25 road" that you need to call up on yet are extremely over grown and barley wide enough for one vehicle?
 
My understanding is how it is explained on page 13 of the synopsis, The Law described applies to public roads. Logging roads are usually privately maintained (I believe) and don't falling under the same regulations.

That said I've only shot from or on roads that foot travel was the only accessibility.
 
in the cariboo region here in BC , most of the back country gravel roads do not fall under the road allowance rules because they are not a maintained road.
However..... many 2 lane gravel roads in region 5 are considered "haul roads" and have highway status with the local CO's.
there's so may hunters, firewood gatherers, prospectors and mushroom pickers in this province , it's really not safe to shoot "on a road" these days anyways.

So the pelican and FSR would be a no go?
 
Regs say any numbered highway or 2 lane or greater road that is maintained by the ministry of transportation. As far as I am aware ministry does not maintain logging roads nor are any in my area anywhere near 2 designated lanes.

In my neck of the woods, once you hit gravel you're good.
 
in the BC cariboo, region 5 , ALL active haul roads are considered by CO's to be highways.
examples around me would be the Wilcox/Bradley creek and the 6000 road. everybody hunts them and shoots off the road but the CO's have been nailing anyone who isn't 15 meters of the invisible center line. These things vary region by region but if you see active haul signs.... better not chance dropping Bullwinkle on the road , up here, if Glenn the CO catches you.... he can be a real bastard hehehe
he can also be one of the coolest cats in the cariboo depending which side of the law yer on ;)

Both the Wilcox (500) and 6000 roads have portions that are public roads, maintained by MOTI, and as such have a 15m road allowance, so the CO's are correct to nail people for shooting off these sections. Not all active haul roads are public roads, and they would be wrong on many if they applied this incorrectly to all active haul roads.

If it isn't a dedicated 2 lane or greater public road maintained by highways, then it doesn't have a road allowance and can be shot from/along. This includes dedicated FSR's, road permit roads,non-status roads and all other trails. The best way to confirm a roads' legal status is by the use of iMap with the appropriate layers.

As always safe practices must be followed, so be sure of your target and beyond if shooting around roads.
 
Your good down the pelican 15m from the centreline of the road. The only roads in BC subject to restrictions are all numbered highways and any two lane or greater public road in bc that is maintained by the ministry of trasportation or their contractors, the federal government or another province or territory. Spur roads into blocks and the like are fine, the main FSR is 15m. The blackwater and pelican is so ####in busy you wouldn't want to. I'd wager it's the least adhered to regulation out there, every year at least once i come around a corner only to be in the background of some idiot lining up on a grouse.

a few years ago I received a fairly definitive answer from a C.O. that said "Any improved roads are off limits - I.e. any road with a speed limit sign, pavement, road names, etc." That was right after he issued me a fine for shooting within 15 meters of an improved road :kickInTheNuts:
 
I believe the regs here states any road accessible by public. Was wrong before though ...

It is unlawful:
• under the Highway Traffic Act to operate a vehicle in a manner that
impedes the normal movement of traffic;
• to discharge a firearm from a vehicle; and
• to discharge a firearm from or across any railway bed, highway,
public or private road.
