The Fallout Commences:

The B.C. government will change its regulations for trapping wolves after conservationists raised the alarm about a trophy hunter who announced, through social media, her intent to remove a wolf pack.

Katrine Conroy, the Minister for Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, said in an interview Thursday that she was unaware until this week that there are no limits on trapping wolves in the province.

“I’m going to work with the B.C. Wildlife Federation to change the regulations, to close the loophole, because I think it’s a loophole,” Ms. Conroy said.

While I believe Jacine Jadresko is a publicity seeking sensationalist with a hell of an overblown ego, the government's response is draconian.

Just what the hell does it take to make our side get off their asses and express their opinions?

Except in this case we have nobody to blame but members of our own community. People who make a scene solely to boost their number of followers on instagram in the vain hope of becoming the next Eva Shockey. As harsh as the government response is, what do you expect when the majority of citizens are not hunters nor shooters and see that sort of behaviour?

In this case if we're going to express some opinions they should be directed to the wanna-be Instagram princess telling her to smarten up. More proof that social media is poison.

Things must have change since I had a trap line if anyone can just go out and set traps for wolves now

No, only licensed trappers can set traps for furbearers, and only the trapline holder can set traps on their trapline (or another trapper who they give permission to). Private land requires the owners permission to trap.

Ontario lets farmers trap on the own property.

I think in BC you can trap on your own property as well but it has to be a certain size and the traps far enough away from neighboring properties. A trapper's license is still required though.

No property size restriction, but 200m+ from buildings for killing traps on land. Live traps or kill sets in water are allowed within 200m.

Yes you can trap your own land, provided you are licensed, or any private land with the owners permission

^Thanks for the info on land size. I will read the regs again and may get signed up for the BC trapper's course.
My neighbor told me you cannot even trap hare without it any more. There used to be a less than 20 ga. wire clause for rabbit if I remember correctly which was taken off the regs?

Hares are not furbearers, as MiG25 states the 20ga clause is still in the regulations and snaring hares is legal in an open season with a hunting license.

the worst thing to happen to hunting is social media and attention seekers like Jacine Jadresko. the problem is our community is full of Jacine Jadreskos who arent happy until the whole world sees the bear, elk, moose etc they just killed. then these pictures get blasted in the faces of city dwellers who dont know any better with some sensationalist back story written by an Anti hunter with the words "trophy" and "endangered" written all over it and it pisses people off, people who really wouldnt care or have a clue what was going on if there wasnt constant social media pictures being circulated by hunters and used against us by the Anti's.

So please go ahead and post your latest kill on FB/instagram whatever, its your right to do so, but just know youre part of the reason we will lose our hunting rights. i have not and never will share my hunting pics. only with close friends and family.

this isnt exclusive to the hunting community, I was a fishing guide for years and lots of fishing spots were destroyed by the same attention craving dummies thanks to social media.

2 million PAL holders and their families, especially those people that hunt better get onside and get their members voting CPC or there will be nothing to hunt with!!

^That is how it is! The commercial "Reality TV" money hunters have been doing more damage than good to the hunting community. Destroying good hunting areas through their social media money grab and "look at my kill" culture, imo.
