I picked up a couple of scopes both Japenese manufacture, one a Balvar 3-9x40 and another fixed 4x. These are in minty condition. What are your guys thoughts on these. I am planning on putting the 3-9 on a 7mm REM Mag and the 4x on my wife's Husqvarna carbine in 30/06 she currently has a 1.5-5x 20 and I thought this would be a simpler choice for her as she's not really a person who wants to fiddle with stuff.

Thanks
Fuzzy

I had a Balvar 3-9 on a M77 paddle stock 7 mag. Great glass.....for the time, and I bet you got it cheap.

B&L made Bushnell glass......then the customer ate the manufacturer. Became Bushnell....3000 & 4000....then elite 3200 and 4200.

All this being said.....we live in a golden age for optical quality.

Bushnell didn't eat the whole thing. Having started out by getting Bausch & Lomb to supply them with 'scopes and binoculars made in Japan, then eventually bought B&L's sport optics division and ran it for a few years under the Bausch & Lomb name before absorbing it into the Bushnell brand. The original Bausch and & Lomb company was subsequently sold and resold but is still a big player in the contact lenses and eye care market.

I have a 3-9x40 B&L 3200 Elite (manufactured sometime in the early 90’s, before rebranding to Bushnell) on my 30.06 Model 70 and it’s an exceptionally clear and reliable scope.
Great choice for your 7mm.

And I would not put a fixed scope on your wife’s 30.06, because of the versatility of that chambering
