Considering a single shot for 22 Long Rifle Silhouette. I've kind of fallen for the B.S.A. Martini, since a friend let me try his for a few weeks some years back. I dont recall what model it was, but am curious as to what would be best for this application, what to look for and prices. I dont remember if it had an adjustable trigger - if they dont can they be worked on?

It depends if you want to use it for legit competition or not. I think the internationals are over the weight limit, and the 12/15 at just over 9# without optics might be also. I'd read up on the rules for silhouette rifle restrictions first. I think a model 8 would fit, but you'd have to modify it to fit a scope.

I LOVE martini's... but it wouldn't be my first choice for silhouette because they are very front heavy and would tire you out too quick in competition.

Take a look at the BSA pages at the rifleman.org site here http://www.rifleman.org.uk/BSA_small-bore_target_rifles.html.

The Model 12 is the 'adult' sized older style gun, the International, in one of its several Marks, is the more modern firearm.

With a decent barrel, either should shoot as well or better than the guy holding it.

More of a crapshoot on getting a good barrel on a Model 12 or 13. The Internationals usually ended up in the hands of someone that appreciated them and was willing to care for them. But check.

Good luck!

heres the rules;(edited for brevity)

SMALLBORE SILHOUETTE RIFLE:
Maximum weight 10 pounds, 2 ounces including sights. Any sights, telescopic or metallic may be used.

SMALLBORE HUNTING SILHOUETTE RIFLE
Maximum weight 8 pounds 8 ounces including sights. The only alterations to the rifle that will be allowed are epoxy bedding and the addition of a recoil pad that maybe adjusted for length of pull only and must be of the same dimensions as the original butt plate.

So the martini internationals would be too heavy at 14lbs. the 12/15, 12, or 15 at just under 10 lbs would be ok if you used the iron sights, but if you put a scope on it, it may be over the weight class limit.
None of them would qualify for the hunting class.

They are accurate enough, but too heavy.

International Mk 111 with a Litchert scope - also have the target sights for it. Over the weight limit for the silhouette but always amazed at the groups this gun shoots.

Can you imagine if they tried to make those today? With the quality of the action alone you'd be talking thousands of $$$$
