B&T APC Range report, comparisons and groups

Well, my APC finally showed up today, after 4 long days as a prisoner of Canada Post over the Easter Long Weekend. Good thing we had the Calgary Gun Show to keep things interesting during the wait! Overall, I must say that I am impressed with the fit and finish. Perhaps not quite as nice as my SAN rifle, but close. I can now see what people meant by the Blanchard Grind on the bolt face. It looks rough in photos, but is not (thank goodness!) in reality. I already knew about the heat treatment finish issues around the Cam Path and on the strike face of the Bolt Carrier, so no big surprise or disappointment there. I am quite happy with the APC223 in its carbine configuration and am confident that it will become a favourite of mine once I get some rounds down-range.

As expected, the biggest shortcoming of this otherwise finely tooled and very handy carbine is the comb height of the folding Buttstock. That got me to looking around the gun room for a suitable way of raising the comb. I came across a piece of dense but lightweight and rigid foam that came out of an adjustable strap-on Cheek-riser. It has a concave contour on the underside that was a perfect match for the APC Buttstock, and a rounded top surface ideal for a cheekrest. I simply cut it to length, put a line of Hot Glue between the foam and the top of the Buttstock to keep it from shifting, and then secured it with a couple of zip-ties. It actually turned out better than I expected. It is very secure, yet could be easily removed with no damage whatsoever to the rifle should something better (eg. a plastic snap-on riser) come along. Here it is in all of its glory - my $.50 solution to the APC Buttstock problem....

Thanks for sharing, now you just need to make a form fitted kydex cover that will hold that in place instead of the zip ties. :)

i think we should focus on a viable ACR stock adapter. anyone have both and willing to give it to a machinest for all of us? :p i would but i dont own a real acr stock. mine off an airsoft gun

Personally, I'm not a fan of mixing and matching parts from different firearms to create hybrids. Call me a purist, but aside from personal choice of optics, I like my modern sporting rifles configured pretty much as they come from the factory. I'd much rather see a clip-on plastic/polymer cheek-riser for the standard butt-stock than some mash-up of parts from various rifles. The buttstock length is fine for me, I just need a higher 1" comb. But hey, that's just me. A buttstock adapter for the Bushmaster ACR folder shouldn't be overly difficult for someone with the requisite CADCAM and CNC skills. It's just not my preferred option...

I would prefer a clip on riser too, in fact I also am fine with the APC folder LOP.
I ditched the PRS route once I see how long it was gonna be.

well I can send rami an email, see what he thinks, i could lend him the rifle and my spare acr stock.
I dunno if there is enough demand to justify his time though...

We need someone with kydex fabrication skills to have a go at a clip-on riser for the basic stock. Anyone happen to know of someone with the requisite skills and vision?

I know a guy just south of Edmonton that works with Kydex, I could ask him if he's interested in looking at your rifle and making something.

The adapter would add a section and make it look longer in real life than the photoshopped mockup right?

Yep not too sure how much longer the b&t stock has a spring buffer system in it, that would need to be switched over and housed within the adapter then the ace stock attached to that. the retractable folder acr stock would be great since it could remain in the shortest setting to accommodate for the extra length of the adapter

I'd be down for a meet-up to discuss and brainstorm ideas for a kydex solution. I'd just detach the buttstock so that there are no transport issues and your friend could borrow it if necessary. How far South are we talking, as I am located just North of Edmonton? Anyhow, sounds like a possible project in the making if he is interested and willing...

Interesting......

Worth finding out, I must admit it is a very nice option. I agree not sure about economy of scale and therefore also price point.

I heard that local has one in stock so begin my 40 min journey during lunch break to there.

First impression, it's well build and good looking rifles, everything seem to fit together perfectly externally, can't say much about the internal since I don't have much time to open her up.

Second impression, Charging the bolt is really smooth, way better than a TAVOR.

Third impression, All controls are seem to be at the right place.

Fourth impression, even though the front is heavy due to barrel length but it's still a well balance rifle. That's it and all I got on this since time is limited.

I was going to buy one but I gave up when I started to shoulder the rifle.

I was like WTF, the stock's LOP is really short, I am short Asian person about 5 feet 6 inch, I can't shoulder this rifle properly without readjust my technique. It maybe because I'm always an AR guy kind of thing but still the stock's LOP is like an russian SKS.

The last thing is I can't get properly eyes alignment withe BUIS, somebody really need to made ACR stock adapter for this rifle.

I was like WTF, the stock's LOP is really short..

you need to lean into the rifle pressing your cheekbone against the rounded plastic end of the stock near receiver. That's how you shoot MP5, G3, SG542 etc. There is a gentle curve, which allows you to position your head properly for irons or aimpoint.

Check youtube videos done by Larry Vickers, Iraqveteran8888.

BTW SG542 fixed stock LOP is freaking long, i'm 5'11" and it's borderline unusable. I can't imagine Chilean mountain troops shooting it comfortably in their parkas, unless they are all 6'6".
