Ive noticed that B&T have recently made a US compliant TP9 (semi auto) Pistol. This is marked TP9-US. It looks as though the only differences from the EU and Canadian version is that there is a missing forward pistol grip as well as the folding stock. This looks to be able to be fired with one hand like an AR15 style PISTOL.

If this is the case, wouldn't the pistol have a seperate FRT number than the earlier SMG-type model? And therefore, as a restricted PISTOL, wouldnt there be the availability of legal 10 round magazines? (Given the success of the RRA 10 rounders for AR15 pistols, than the same should hold true for these)...

Anyone import a TP9-US Pistol?

The info from the US importer (DSA) is here:

The model that is available in Canada is this one:

Standard TP-9

Standard 5 round capacity as it was probably classified as a semi-Automatic RIFLE, as it can be shouldered and fired with two hands.

* My thinking was that if one was imported, than it would have to be classified as a PISTOL model with the RCMP Forensics? Commonly known as a PISTOL in the US...

opinions?

The fly in the ointment will likley be what gun the mag was designed for. The origionals were designed for a smg, which limits it to 5. Since all the current mags were made in the same pattern, good luck. However, B&T can very likely claim that the new 10 round mag is a seperate creation made specificly for the US spec pistol.

If B&T support the process, I can't imagine the RCMP not finding the same criteria have been met as the RRA pistol mags.

It also requires that the pistol mags be marked differently than the "rifle" mags. Which I doubt B&T would do on their own - perhaps someone could persuade them to.

I suspect you are right, but that B&T only made a 10 round mag for this pistol could in itself be enough.

B&T only made the changes so they could be imported to the US as a pistol and avoid any of the "assault weapons" ban laws now and in the future. They did not want to license US production.

PS....I was down in the US a few days ago and alot of guys are jealous as hell about us having TAVORS!!!

Hmmmmm ... stil thinking that 10 round capacity would be a good thing for this style of pistol.

If the TP9-US pistol is a commonly-known pistol variant than the 10 round capacity could be an option as the changes to the US model make it appear to be able to be fired with one hand (no stoc, no front vertrical grip)... the potential is there.

Doubtful that there is enough demand to warrant the mass import of them.. but it only takes one importation of the pistol.

Does someone know if there is a way to querry the RCMP database (FRT)? I assume that they know (or will know of this process) ... additionally it the mag, not the gun that it was designed for, as I understand the previous ruling.

Anyone go through a classification? Im thinking Questar here ...

Yp, the mags are there are Im waiting for a reply from DSA to find out if they are marked "pistol" 10 round capacity etc....

Im thinking that someone will have to just import a TP9-US pistol through Questar and see what RCMP forensics say about the classification :)

The possibility is there, but we would most likely have to get Wolverine involved to provide incentive for B+T to actually make modifications to the mags. This in turn would likely boost sales of the TP9 for Wolverine. It's a win-win situation.

BTW that TP9-US is horrible, it's like an over-sized, overweight and over-priced Glock. I've read people are spending extra cash to register it as a SBR by adding a stock and paying the tax stamp. We're kinda lucky here.

The TP9 shoots BEAUTIFULLY it's so fun to shoot, shot a box of 9mm a couple weeks ago - a guy I was doing my blackbadge course with brought it with him. If I had the cash this would be a nice little novelty item for me
