Baby Martini 22hornet

Decided to use my last martini action .Using a crome molly Bevan barrel 14 twist ,turned to a heavy contour that looks pretty good and chambered to 22 Hornet at 23" .

was missing a few pieces so had some fabing to do firing pin,striker spring ,trigger spring ,lever pin ,extractor pin and trigger group screw.This action is basically a bits put together .

Did a test fireing and the cases look good and because I made the new trigger spring ended up with 2#2oz trigger pull (beat it up and doesnt go off )

Now to comple with wood and scope base

In my pile of off-and-on projects, I have a action that was already converted to CF, by lowering the breech block. I picked up a Remington take-off barrel and threaded it, but have not yet fitted the extractor.

Nice work. Martini's can be addicting to say the least. Some people don't like the ergonomics but they fit me just fine.

The first one I did in 22 Hornet gave me issues with split necks and case stretching. I borrowed a reamer and opened it up for the "K" Hornet shape. That definitely stopped the stretching issues and seemed to solve the split neck issue as well.

Great rifle, great cartridge.

The last set of wood I got for one of those small actions was from Boyd's in the US about a decade ago. I don't know if they still make them or not. They will however do the odd "custom" request if they have enough demand.

I do have a khornet on a full size action and the shell gets a bit lost when you drop it into that big hole under the scope. And your wood will certainly put mine to shame.

Bevan built me a 17 Ackley Bee on a small Martini about thirty years ago. Converted the action, barreled it up, and stocked it. The full meal deal! I used it for a few years, and then sold it to a guy who just had to have it. Another one I might have kept.......

Your Hornet looks much like it. Congratulations on a very fine looking project, Pete.

Thank you Ted.It should as thats the way Bevan showed me how to do them LOL.You Know today was his B day .
finished fitting and shaping stock to my ability ,sanded to 400 and stained .waiting on the scope base and it will be off for ceracote once that its installed .Will start the oil finish in a few days but here is how it looks tonite

well done to my abilities .I wiped down the metal with some degreaser and gave it a quick wipe with tool black to give it some color as it will be blasted when ceracoted any how .Scope base is installed and wood has been oiled .It will look different still after it is fully finished
