was looking to make up a 7mm martini .Looked at the 7mm TCU but it appears that the reamer is special order and wait .Did a lil poking on the web and came up with a plan .

Went through my reamers and came up with a solution and using some chucking reamers ended up with a 7mm similar to 7 SM and using the 5.6x50 case at 1.7 OAL 2.5 " (cut brass a bit short ,but will fix that for next cases)

all test fired and just have to cut extractor and finish up ,,used a 7mag take off barrel for project and finish at 21.5"

cut out the extractor from a blank I previously made and installed at 6 o'clock position, spits the empties out just great

the 7mmSM is an obscure brain child of Elgin Gates based off the 357Max/Super Mag case with a very short neck and almost no body taper ,Similar to the 7TCU but a bit more case capacity. This is a bit different from Gates as I am using the 5.6x50R case to gain a neck and it makes the case a bit longer

This is cool. In other countries it would beg for a suppressor. Great for plinking rabbits.

What is the 7 sm?

a martini action in a subsonic caliber with a suppressor would probably be one of the quietist things ever. I loaded up some .45 colt around 700fps and shot them out of my mk4 with an adapter and because of that 33 inch barrel you pretty much just heard the striker and the thud down range

There's a fella on Youtube in Aus. who makes up a short .303 with an 8mm round. Something like a rimmed 8mmx39. It is quite a neat little creature. I am not one for overbore cartridges with academic gains.

If you wouldn't mind detailing this cartridge I'd be interested. It seems like a fantastic coyote/blacktail/antelope rd. I'd love to fiddle with this kind of thing.

I bought a BA Brown falling block silhouette pistol earlier this year in the 7MM SM ,,never heard of it before that .Did a chamber cast and went from there ,almost no neck.
Looked up on google and couldn't find any real info ,just forms telling me the 7TCU is better to source brass for (223) and has a neck
Made a sizing die for the cases out of tool steel (still have to harden it)from some chucking reamers .378 body and 7mm neck reamer(the .378 reamer just happens to have a 40* lead angle and matches the case shoulder)
Now having a 7mm mag barrel and a spare martini action ,since I was able to make a sizing die with the chucking reamers chambered up the barrel .
My version will be using 5.6x50R cases fire formed in the chamber and trimmed to 1.7 as the martini is length limited
until I get it finished up to testing loads thats about all I know so far ,,,,other than it looks to be a neat cartridge
the short neck will also function in the chamber

Thanks. I want to try this at some point. I have a Brno Fox action I'm saving for 6x45 and when I find a cheap baby martini would like to try something like your 7mm or the Nickal cartridge.

I am familiar with the large Martini action and with the small Martini action ... is this "baby" Martini smaller yet or is it just a small Martini?

a bit more along with it, have barrel profiled and front dove cut ,fitted the forend and buttstock ,plugged the top holes in action and all polished just about ready for the blueing
