Baby oil on rifles

Mineral oil is frequently used on carbon steel knives. Probably because its safe to ingest in small amounts.

Why would you want to use baby oil on a gun? Since it is a form of mineral oil, it is absolutely the wrong thing to use on the wood (if you have a wood stock), and properly-formulated water-displacing oils like WD-40 or more gun-specific oils like Hornady One Shot for the metal are available and cheap.

Just bought a gallon of mineral oil off Amazon and will use it for a lot of things including sewing machines and guns.
Don't think it's ideal for wood finishes but would be interested in learning more about that.

The most knowledgeable person I've encountered about stock finishing posted for years on the Rimfire Central forum. His screen name on that forum was noremf, and he has passed away, sadly, recently. Noremf was the forum resident expert on all things to do with wood stocks. The one no-no he preached was using anything with mineral oil in it on wood, especially if it also contained silicone.

You can get his insights by going onto the RFC site (rimfirecentral.com), which has dozens of sub-forums, and scrolling down (way way down) to the subforum: Stocks: Making, Repairing, Refinishing, Modifying, and Bedding. Then go to the sticky on that subforum: Things to Avoid on Wood Finishes! Then there is a PDF file: The Dangers of Non-natural Waxes and All Polishes.

Noremf had many threads on the RFC forum, and anyone wanting to learn about gunstock finishing can benefit from reading his posts.

A friend cleaned his wood stove with baby oil, once. Damn, that stove looked good. We then spend the evening in the shed, waiting for the smoke and smell to dissipate.

Just go purchase a bottle of gun oil along with a oil cloth, you will be set for life. BTW, gun oil does not work on hydro dipped fake wood finish.;)

Lol!

Would you recommend any other body lotions, lube or creams for a wood stove clean-up?

No clue. Anything pine scented :)?
I think we could get a fire as in I-flux-my-casting-lead-with-wax fire. I also have a worsening dust problem here in town, getting even inside my die boxes... I can picture a stove covered in it very easily, sticking to the oil and coarse surface.
I just found a link about Cleaning Your Wood Stove Properly in 11 steps; not going to click on that...
Better ask some really old people...
