why is this restricted?

The RCMP classified it as a 5 shot revolver, thus restricted.

Basically, if you remove the wood stock you find the exact same frame and metal grip area as the standard Judge revolver: it's basically a handgun with the grips swapped on the same frame for a stock and a 18.5" barrel. It was a great disappointment with many moans from at least a number of wannabe buyers that it was deemed restricted.

Nice gun though.

Most hunting regulations list hunting with a "revolver" as prohibited. Regardless of length, barrel length etc. Can't plug a revolver to 3 shot total capacity like a tube fed shotgun with a 2+1 total.

There are .22lr Browning rifles that are essentially Buckmark pistols and they're non restricted. The RCMP is all over the place.
If you take the wood off those Brownings you find a steel armature welded to the frame that goes back to support the stock. It's a different frame than the pistols. This circuit judge has the exact same frame as the revolvers. The stock is purely wood held on with screws; no steel armature.

The RCMP are inconsistent but in these two examples they seem to make sense.

The 10/22 was first made as a rifle. The charger pistol came years after. Unlike the taurus judge.

Rossi would have to modify the frame so it would be designed for the rifle version.

The Ruger 25 rd mags are foolishly marked for rifle or pistol which gave the RCMP the idea to have them made illegal or pinned to 10 rd capacity. The devil is in the details.

I guess we should just be grateful it isn’t in the soul-shredding, Satanic, baby-devouring .32 calibre

Most hunting regulations don't mention action type, and they certainly don't classify firearms. Should of read Aniest's post above yours for a more informed and factual statement.
And you can plug the cylinders, or swap them out. à la the 410 revolving shotguns coming in.
