Costs vary widely depending on where and what you hunt. I'd say count on a minimum of $10k and that goes up from there depending on what you hunt. Basically you pay a base hunt price and then a trophy fee for each animal taken. Airfare is not cheap either. Our flights were around $3k and we still have to get our trophies shipped back and of course some taxidermy but we have been slowly paying for this hunt for the past two years and will have another year before we see our trophies and then another year till we get our taxidermy back. If you spread it out over four years, it becomes quite affordable. Doing free-range hunts in Namibia definitely adds to the cost as well. South Africa has some incredible deals right now if you shop around.

It's a kudu. It and the gemsbok are the two plains game animals that rated highest on my list. Vanessa tagged out first with this incredible 50" beauty and I had to wait until the very last afternoon to score on a kudu. Just be warned that there is a tradition of eating raw liver after the kill!

Congratulations, great pics! I read how difficult it can be to drop a zebra, and it never really sunk in until I saw your pictures. Those guys, especially your partner's look huge. Interesting you say you liked zebra the best. I don't know how closely they are related to the horse, but if its anything like the horse meat in Amsterdam I think I can relate. ummmmmm.

Ya, I am. Not sure if I can afford it but it's only money.......Hard to get Africa out of your system. This new area that Boet just acquired sounds awesome.

The area we hunted was loaded with giraffes and it was awesome to see them in the wild. Hard to believe they actually still roam free. Wasn't tempted to shoot one but can see why some decide to hunt them. They are amazingly flighty. Had an opportunity to take a cheetah as well but decided not to. It was really cool to see a couple of them though.

Both ours died pretty quickly but I was shocked at how big they were as well. Vanessa's was definitely as big as they get. These are Hartman's mountain zebra and man, they inhabit some rough country. We saw lots of Burchell's zebra when we visited Etosha but they didn't seem as stout. Meat was slow cooked over an open fire for a couple hours and was as tender and juicy as anything I've eaten.

I'd love to a jackel hunt over there. Not too interested in hunting anything else. A night hunt for jackel would be awesome. Id have to be 30 feet off the ground just so I wouldnt be as scaried of the lions,hyenas,leopards,cheetahs and anything else that could rip your face off instantly.
 
Very nice pic's looks like you and you're lady enjoyed the trip, mine won't even go camping with me if I might shoot an animal while we're there...

Good for you! I missed that on my first read. My wife fell in love with the kids over there, I had to keep checking the bags to make sure she wasn't trying to bring one home. In many of the places we went outside of Arusha after our hunt, we saw kids with their hands out on the side of the road. We assumed they wanted money or candy, but our driver said no, they were on their way to (or from) school and wanted pencils! Had we known that we would have been better prepared.

There were a couple of kids we saw though out in the middle of nowhere herding goats. They weren't going to school anytime soon, and what they wanted was water. We gave them a big bottle that seemed to make them happy.
