My son, brother and I got back this weekend from the cariboo and all shot our deer, my son got a nice fork, I shot a small 4x3 and my brother got a big fork that weighed 225lbs feild dressed (I will have pics of his tomorrow) the weather was warmer than we hoped with the rut just starting when we were leaving, also had a cool visitor in camp every night.

Congrats John! You guys did well.

I got back from the Cariboo on Friday night as well. I shot a small 3x3. No trophy, but not skunked either.;)

Cheers.

James

A silver fox. They are a fairly common colour phase around here.

Sounds like you guys had a good hunt John. What side of the river were you on?

That was a nice colour on that fox, we hunt the east side of the river, except my sons fork was taken in the breaks on the west side but had to be back packed out 2.5KM a little far when your 50 years young so we move to our old spot.

The West side, along those fir slopes, is still my favorite place to hunt around here. While the few roads through there get beaten to a hell by the truck-hunters once you get out on your own legs it all changes! Also, there is nothing like the thrill of being "buzzed" by a big blue grouse while you are quietly still-hunting. ;)

I agree the west side was nice to hunt once you are off the road and we would have stayed if the snow had brought the big bucks down but we saw 35 deer a day but nothing over a 3 point so we chose to hunt our old spot as it is an easier pack and hoping to run into a big one, I would of had no problem packing a big boy out of the breaks but small ones we can find easier places to hunt.

this year's mule deer

Just a fork, but inside spread is just over 20" and circumference of the bases is over 6.5 inches.
Rifle is a model 70 CRF stainless in 7 Rem Mag in an Edge Supergrade stock with Talleys LW and a varix lll 3.5x10, shooting a 162 Hornady, for the gun fanatics among us. Shot was at 175-200 yards as he walked through the trees.
Rifles the other deer were taken with were a 280 Mtn rifle (Ti stock) using 139 Interbonds ( I believe) and a 257 Weatherby (Gaillard barrel) on a 700 action,in a McMillan classic stock, with a vxlll 4.5x14 Leupold and a 110 Accubond.
