Just got back from the moose hunting. After countless hours of scouting, walking and ATV'ing, we were able to harvest a nice 42" bull. The group also had a cow tag but as much as we tried we weren't able to fill it. Slim pickings for sightings this year, the only animals we saw were the aforementioned bull and a distant (running) cow.
Chris, the shooter, was able to connect with a spine-shot at a range of around 200 yards. The bull was slowly walking through a thick section of tag-alders, all that was visible was the top-third of his body as well as the antlers. Rifle was a Sauer Model 90 in 300 Wby. Mag. firing Federal Premium 180 gr. NP's.
