Was invited to go hunting with a friend, and one of his co-workers, a fellow I had not met until just before we left.

It went very well, all considered.

We were pretty much the dedicated half-day hunters. Looking for moose and deer, but completely without any pressure to fill any tags.

I need a "Half Day Hunters Sleeping" sign! :D

The upside. Three of us with very compatible mindsets and complimentary skills to call upon.

The downside. Having to listen to another party in the same campsite explain that they shot a "partridge" but it was on the other side of a brook, so they just left it. Followed by having same, come into our campsite (they were across the road) and proceed to shoot at the squirrels inside our campsite area, killing one, before they found out we were 'home'. Then me getting shat upon by the father of the teen that was shooting squirrels, for swearing at his kid. Exact quote. "Leave those f**king squirrels alone!" and "If you are not going to f**king eat it, why are you f**king well shooting it?" I wasn't feeling particularly polite at the time. But Dad made sure to tell me that swearing at his kid was his job, not mine. Well, get on it. Shooting squirrels for fun, I have little enough time for. Shooting the tame ones around the campsite, far, far less.
Add to that, that the father showed up another night, to the fire pit, carting a pallet, and making out like it was some great bloody treat to see one burn, chucks it on the fire, then pulls his truck up and blesses up with his music selections, when we were pretty pleased to be enjoying the sounds of the night, the fire as it was, and relaxing...
Then there was the mess they left at the impromptu "range" they set up after they had packed up and left empty handed...

F**king Yobs!

I wasn't too upset to see the back of them, and they will be on the list of folks I'll check for, to see if they will be there next time. I'll plan around our paths not crossing.

Oh. After we got our camp broke down, swept the area for litter (ours as well as theirs) and got our clean clothes on, we went to say our goodbyes to some folks in a nearby camp, and hooked up on a nice little buck (shortest antlers yet!) and saw another doe.

Karma. Sometimes it works out!

Met some good folks out there. Sorry about the rant. The yobs tainted an otherwise excellent week out.

Cheers

Karma is good all things even out

Not much more peaceful than a campfire krackle and the wind in the trees

I was just thinking now we have a thread for the people that we see at the range
now we need a thread for people we see or meet when out hunting or at camp

you gotta love hunting! :) any pics???

I've gotta round up some from the other guys.

I sat on my point and shoot digital last summer, and have not replaced it yet.

Some Highlights....

Best view in the place, on a logging road, at a bit over 1200 meters altitude, and counting 6 ridges visible, before it blended into the horizon.

Or cresting the rise on a cutline, and seeing it carry on to the vanishing point on the horizon. Man that must have been a heck of a job to cut in.

Wolf tracks everywhere. Never saw or even heard them, though.

Had a white phase weasel come out and check us out as we were walking back to the truck one afternoon. No fear. Came and looked at us, checked us out, then went back to mousing.

Shooting Squirrels? A game warden told a story about the Cache Creek Game check about 45 years ago. A skunked hunter opened up his trunk to show the CO's his trophy, a squirrel wearing a cancelled moose tag. They called it illegally taking a fur bearing animal . . . they exhibited no sense of "HaHa". Same game warden told of the hunter claiming it was the first moose he ever shot with shoes on. Ignorramis is all about us but some are "One Dee ten tee" . . . 1 D 10 T . . .
