The new Ferfrans Modular Muzzle Brake System is a two part system consisting of the performance MUZZLE BRAKE MOUNT + CRD (Concussion Reduction Device) which features a built in quick attach/detach mechanism.

Muzzle Brake Mount Specs:
  • Weight - 4.0 oz
  • Length - 2.28"

CRD (Concussion Reduction Device) Specs:
  • Length - 2.17"
  • Width - 1.6" Diameter
  • Total weight of the system combined is 10.4 ounces.

$279.99

Griffin Blast Shield directs forward, while the Ferfrans CRD difuses blast through tiny holes.

Controllability is better with the FerFrans

How does this system compare to the Griffin Armaments Blast Shield set up?

I've done a bunch of research on these things, and it seems that the Ferfrans is the best "shield" at maintaining the function of the brake (reducing recoil and muzzle rise) while still directing the blast & sound forward.
It appears that none of these shield/brake combos are quite as effective at recoil-reduction/rise as a brake alone though.

Interesting. Looking for a better setup for my Tavor, i find the recoil impulse odd with the brake i have on it now (almost a circular motion). The ability to add the shield/diffuser would be great when firing under or near cover.

dBA data measured at the operator end would be interesting to see.

Indeed, I'm considering one not only to avoid blasting my fellow range-mates with gas, but also to avoid kicking up a dirt/pebble-storm when shooting prone.

Re: sound -- of the "shields" I looked into (via internet research of course...for what that's worth) all did a good job of directing sound and concussion forward. In a couple of the videos, the guys doing the shooting commented that it was significantly louder for them without the shield installed (I think one of those was the Surefire). Some LE/military guys commented that a shield is essential if you're shooting with others in anything like close proximity (ie/ it's not just a gimmicky device)...and that it's a good middle ground between using a brake alone and a real comp.
