Hey folks, decided to re-enter the restricted world and looking to buy a handgun in the $500-700 range. I've owned a number in the past but have fond memories of how good the M&P felt in my hands (which are not big). Figured it was settled but being a bit of a Beretta fan boy I started checking out the APX which seems to get a lot of love as well. In a couple head to head videos, it was chosen over the M&P 2.0. There doesn't seem to much debate about the trigger despite the improved one on the 2.0 but what about felt recoil, reliability, grip etc.? TIA for any insight.

I’ve shot a buddy’s APX and I would rate it slightly above a Glock in terms of the trigger and basically the same in everything else. I haven’t shot an M2.0 yet. A benefit for the M&P is that it will likely be significantly easier to find parts and accessories for vs the APX.

Thanks! So grip is good? How did you find the recoil? I always found my M&P pretty tame to shoot.

Beretta's APX is a good gun. The M&P is every bit its equal. Where they differ, for me is the trigger. The APX has a different trigger but its okay. My 1st gen M&P trigger is pretty good too.
Its pretty much a toss-up. The M&P line has a bit more flexibility on models & barrel lengths but its not a deal breaker for the Beretta.

From a different perspective, I would toss in & include the CZ P10F. Its worth a look for sure.

Add another $125.00 to your $700.00 and you have now reached the threshold of the vastly superior CZSP01 Shadow. It crushes all three. Better sights, better & superior slide/barrel/frame lockup. Even 1911's in this price range cannot touch it......

Appreciate your feedback. Had a quick look at the P10F but since I have no interest in working this aft will head back to youtube for more intel. $700 represents the top end of my budget but if that was not the case, you can bet I would be back in the hunt for a new Shadow. One of my ATFs :)

Grip modules seem to be a controlled part acording to brownells.... like a flash hider, barrel ect.... as far as us export laws go. I am in the market for a new. 40, definitely wont be going berreta after some bad experiences with the 1301 shotguns. Only thing I dislike about the s&w is the silly removable disasembly tool is kinda loose and not secured well without a mag in the gun. Picked up a sd9ve to tie me over untill I figure out what I really want. Probably end up with a p320 in .40 it's looking like though.

Never fired the APX so i can’t say for this one but the M&P 2.0 is an amazing gun. The texture on the grip is so good the gun lock in your hand and make follow up shot super easy to make. Trigger on mine after 2k round is really light and crisp. Way better than my P10F which is considered in the best SF handgun trigger under the PPQ. Never had a single malfunction. Of the 10+ handgun i handled in 9mm since i have my RPAL my M&P 2.0 is my favorite and best shooter. Get your hand on one if you can because the grip is not for everyone but i myself love it

If its just between the m&p and the APX would go APX all day.The M&P is a good gun, its not great and its far from special. I have owned it and I have shot an APX, the APX handles recoil much more effectively and I found that it pointed and shot like a laser.

I shot my Son's APX yesterday along with my Glock 19. The APX was very nice to shoot and accurate for me but my Son was having trouble with accuracy. We attributed that to the small back strap he had installed on it. I'm sure he will do better with a bigger back strap if he doesn't forget to bring them again. ;)

No question ... the M&P is very comfortable to handle and everyone raves about the new grip texture on the 2.0. I bought my 1.0 after selling my G17 so it was an awakening lol Hard to beat the value of their range kit too but think I am going to try something new to kick things off. Likely end up with the M&P as well at some point. Thanks

Really appreciate the feedback guys. Now I'm scouring the Black Friday deals. :)

I got an all steel, full size Jericho .40 from Tenda a while back. Acurate, super reliable with all ammo, came with a holster, mag pouch and three mags. I bought an extra Mec Gar CZ75 .40 mag, and it fits perfect. I thought I might not like the frame mounted decocker, but I really like it. Great trigger for both DA and SA too. Check it out.

Does your son know to shoot combat sights? All Berettas are set up that way. Alot of people complain that their Berettas shoot low. They just didn't know it uses a different sight picture.
