So I just completed my CFSC and I'm waiting for the paperwork from that to come through.
However I took the course out of province, i.e. I did the course in Ontario but I'm officially a resident of B.C.. My instructor told me that while its normally done automatically for people from Ontario, I'd need to get a background check from my own province.

That made sense, but I was looking over the PAL application and didn't see anything referring to a background check, is the background check done as part of the verification of the CFSC results? If that's the case do I just need to send a criminal record consent form along with my PAL application?

If anyone has any experience with this info would be appreciated for sure.


P.S. Been reading the forums for a little while; lots of great info and advice on here.
 
I don't think so, (obviously that needs too be done too) but he was talking about contacting the British Columbian police for a criminal record check. He said they'd normally do this themselves but as I'm not an Ontario resident and don't have a drivers license issued in Ontario (and hence no record there), I'd have to do it myself through the BC police.

Thing is I'm not sure when and to whom this information needs to be submitted. It's also possible that my instructor was mistaken, I don't think he had dealt with this situation before.
 
Thats of course what I assumed to do. However after reading through the application and finding no information about criminal record check I thought it was odd that my instructor was adamant about me contacting the BC police for a background check.

I thought maybe this was something that was usually automatically done when the CFSC results are verified....I don't know maybe it will become clear when I get my CFSC paperwork back. Just thought I'd see if anyone had a similar experience.
 
The RCMP will handle all background checks, you don't need to contact the BC police. They will do it the same time they check your references and that. If you have a record, they may ask you about it.. just be honest. I think if it's something you did over five years ago, they will not ask. Unless of course you shot someone in the leg 10 years ago or something.. I'm not saying you did anything, just trying to give you an idea of how it works. But I know foresure you don't need to obtain a criminal record transcript or whatever. I asked about this myself.

That really makes sense given the whole thing is handled nationally not provincially. I just don't want this to take this to take any longer then it already takes.
