Backpacking sleeping set ups..

Depending on what part of BC and time of year a guy is hunting and where
on the coast sinthetic interior down for mat Thermo rest
Base camp it's a cot and foammay as I'm not packing it on my back
Wen going ultralight I got a hybrid sleeping bag that is down on the top portion and synthetic on the bottom and no sleeping mat
Compression bag really helps with the bulk

Iv been using an exped synmat hyperlite for mountain hunts, weighs about a pound and rolls up small, its like sleeping on clouds.

If it's not too cold when you plan on going take a look at a Hennessey Hammock. I got mine around 5 years ago and I haven't slept in a tent on the ground since. They're super comfortable (as a back/side sleeper, front sleeper YMMV).

The only drawback is that when it gets cold out the air under you tends to pull heat away if you don't have some sort of pad beneath you, but since it's just for insulation and not for comfort it doesn't have to be too luxurious of a pad.

As for on the ground, I've got an older model Big Agnes Insulated Ait Core. It rolls up about a 1/3 of the size of a normal thermarest type pad and I like it better than almost any other pad I've slept on. I have heard some bad reviews on the newer models though, I'm not sure if they changed where they're made (china?) or if they're cheaping out on the materials.

How's your sensitivity to motion?

My kids sleep happily in hammocks, although I can't do it myself.

Can't get much more compact than a rolled up hammock, and it's surprisingly warm with a blanket sewn to the bottom face.

You can buy down under quilts that hang outside of the hammock. They're light and stuff down quite small. I'm pretty sure I ordered my top quilt and under quilt from hammock gear. They work very well for my hennessey hammock. If I'm car camping I just use an air pad and a blanket.

I've used a 3/4 length Thermrest as well as a full length. After comparing, I'd rather pack the extra weight and have the full length one under me.

Mine is punctured now, need to replace it.

The hennessey hammocks have ties on either side that keep most of the motion to a minimum

i have an ultra light thermarest, for back country and a std one for car camping. Proven over the years no holes no issues.

There are a couple of new players out there with some really thin and compact stuff waffle and rice paper, but I'm not ready to spend the $$ in case they fail, wait and see on them.

Equipment Exchange is awesome on CGN that wear I pick up my tent
All my lightweight camping gear is off EE exept my sleepbags one came from Wholesale Sports and the other from atmosphere
Looking for ultra-light camping gear to set up for pack in hunts was a lot of fun on EE for me it became a bit of a obsession lol

Exped and go with the thicker one (I think it's the 9 vs. The 7)
it packs up super small, easy to pump up (built in) and it's not like a normal air mattress where u slide off.
Also it's rated for -35 if things get chilly.
I used to have a few different thermarests but there is zero comparison. I now wake up in the woods like I just got out of bed.

Thermarest Neo Air All Season

Cant be beat by anyone, IMO

I have used that product -30 multiple nights 7-10 k out
In the woods, multiple trips, All seasons, they are light, warm and safe

In the really cold season I use a 4 season Bivy bag , foil blanket on the bottom than mattress
It keeps you insulated and warm, and also prevents you from falling off of said air mattress,
A proper bivy will also keep you face vented from your body, keeping moisture down.
I have slept on the Ice of frozen lakes with that setup and woke up warm and happy

Therma rest is the origonal mattress maker and has been doing it right for a long time

They do come with repair kits, and there is a slew of accesories to inflate, or turn into
A chair etc etc,

If I'm traveling really light I just build up a bed from tips of Cedar branches or Moss

I need to be comfortable when camping or hunting from a tent. It's too tiring and too important to have sh*tty nights asleep when on trips. I spent the money and got two new NEMO inflatable mattresses. These are each 4" thick and pack down to about the size of a football.

Have a look at them www.nemoequipment.com

Sumtimes I just sleep under the trees wen I got the seek outside BeyondTimberline 2 it was a big Improvement over my typical setup
Now now a days I have a tent for just about every circumstance and every situation.
Ultralight tent right up to 5 man Arctic bell tent with diesel geostove
Picking pine mushrooms up around cranberry Junction in northern BC I spent 3 or 4!; months at a time and stade in little shanty out of tarps and one of those cheap air tights wood stoves ( hippy killer)
Of chorus today it's a lot easier finding ultralight gear for the hunt and I keep the seek outside tent in my Daypack just in case
The old hunting and camping techniques are still valid and can come in handy especially for young Hunter just starting out
I know when I started hunting I was lucky to be able to buy a box of ammo and tent and sleeping bag was for rich people
