Guys,

I am looking for suggestions for a lightweight, short, and easy to carry rifle or shotgun for carry when hiking, camping, and as a back up for a JIC situation.

Guide lines:

Light weight
shortest possible barrel
minumun 5 round ammo capacity
easily carryable
good iron sights

my first thought was a keltec sub 2000, because of the folding capability, magazine options, and light weight.

I am also a certified gunsmith, so custom type firearms are an option.

Thanks for your ideas.....now let the battle begin!

.357mag,.44mag or 45 colt take yer pick, this is another members rig....I'd shorten the butt a bit to balance it out.

I was wondering if an 8" chamber adapter could work on the 8.5" Norc http://www.gunadapters.com/12-gauge-to-45-colt-pathfinder/ . There is also a 22LR.
I assume you would have to remove the barrel to get it in, and it is 13 ounces extra.
So maybe 2 backpack guns, a 45 Colt/410 and a 22LR. Pick one depending on where you are going.
Jungle carbine with 32 pistol bullet subsonic handloads and normal ammo would be useful too.

I have a lee enfield 303 that has a custom lightened stock (hacksaw and drill bits) It holds 7 rounds cuz the rust is 3 rounds deep and I cut the barrel off at 18 inches with a chop saw and welded bead on the front for a sight , it easy to carry cause of all the holes in the stock and I wrapped bailing wire around the barrel and stock and shaped it like a handle I figgered as a smithie you would appreciate all the hard work all I want for it is $1000 or trade ya for a pig or 19 chickens

Hello my friend has one of the cz-858 with folding stock he seems to think he can shorten barrel with hacksaw and register as restricted. I am not positive but told him the rifling in the barrel is for the 18.6" and the front sights can not be put back on by him if at all it will take a skilled gun Smith to put back on or new set as well as re-thread, file and crown the barrel. And that is if you haven't ####ed up the rifling I know its 1:9.75 twist but its not same pattern on different sized barrels and I am not positive if he some how does get that done if he will be able to register as restricted and that it would be so much cheaper and easier to buy restricted CSA one with chrome then try all that after seeing some how to YouTube video and reading some articles. If any REAL gunsmiths or experienced firearms owners who do there own projects similar to this could weigh in on this thank you.
