backpacks

when it comes to packs and especially packs that are gonna be loaded FRIG thinking budget. Morgtage your house, rob little old ladies, cash in your kids RESPs, steal the nieghbours empty beer bottles in short do what ever it takes to protect your spine. A couple days or even an afternoon in the wrong pack with 100 pounds and rough terrain could literally leave you never doing it again.

This coming from Mr " a trapper nelson was good enough then it's good enough now" who suffers for it daily.

Haha! Is this the same dd that didn't want to pony up for a true backpacking weight shelter? Irony...:)

OK, more seriously, MR are absolutely awesome packs. I and friends own/have owned more than a couple. But, they aren't the only choice going, especially on a budget.

Actually, we just got back from a week sheep hunting, one of us was carrying a MR internal and two of us were using Arcteryx Boras. One of the Bora users was a sheep/goat guide for almost 20 years in the Yukon/Northwest Territories and previous heavy user of MR packs. He didn't choose Arcteryx because of budgetary concerns...;)

Yes, and their first generation got very some bad reviews and had quite a few problems.

I got a Kuiu 6000 for the wife and the only problem with it was the shoulder straps slipped a bit with a really good load. That has since been fixed with a (Kuiu supplied) slightly thicker strap- 2 minute fix. They do take a bit of fiddling around to get to fit just right but if you take the time (as you should with any pack) they will pack a load. This was evidenced by her packing out 90 pounds of gear and deer, 13 km's, last year on a mulie hunt.

I have a Tasmanian Tiger (Tatonka) internal that weighs a fair bit (but slightly lighter than a MR) and that thing can be loaded. I've packed 120 pounds comfortably, other than being damn heavy, with it and it still wasn't full. Note; "comfortably" means that I had no wear marks or bruises on my body afterwards. :)
