Money is stopping me from making money.
Long story "short"...
Can't get funded for any sort of school and the family certainly can't afford to just put me through school.
I took almost 2 years of electrical engineering with money I made from selling a quad (I had bought back when I had a very lucky job opportunity from age 14-16yrs old working for a family friend). I also managed to get a $2000 student loan from the bank, but once that ran out...I had to drop out as I couldn't even afford the gas and parking I needed daily. I'm still paying that stupid loan off too!!!!
Without a trade cert (not just having skills), I've found nothing since my lucky job position I had 10+ yrs ago that's above the $13/hr mark or nothing that will keep me employed without yearly layoffs or short work days/weeks. St. Thomas is a dead town when it comes to jobs and now with the Ford plant closed, things are worse than ever here. I've always gotta drive a decent distance to get to any job I've had (except for 1) which makes it basically impossible to even $30-$40 per pay period.
I can't sell my car and move to another city and take public transportation because I've got 2k more into my car loan than the car is worth due to my last vehicle needing TWO replacement transmissions AND TWO replacement transfer cases among many other parts.
I live in St. Thomas, which is truly the land of no job opportunities.
EI denied me second career training because they said I already had enough skills to be able to find a job easy enough. Great, thanks for all the help.
Daily when I look for jobs on all the employment sites, there's only an average of 2-3/day that I can apply to "locally", and by about dinner that day, there's already been at least 400views (kijiji).
I've completely exhausted randomly driving around town dropping off resumes.
Fast food places won't even hire me, I know they just look at my resume, see that it's mainly construction related, and toss it out for fear I'll be outta there the second I find a better job.
I need some sort of job where the employer knows I'm not just looking for temporary work, but a career I can be proud of and constantly progress at.
Sounds like a load of crap I know it does, but I assure you there's no story telling goin' on. I just need another lucky job opportunity like I had when I was 15-16 to get me started! I know once I have a few $$ to my name, it'll be no problem making lots more $$ from that point (flipping houses, custom kitchens, cars etc). I can't even re-do kitchens for people at the moment as I've had to sell all my tools so I wouldn't get behind on my car payments!
I moved out to Alberta with a buddy for a job right after I was forced to leave Fanshawe College, but was lied to about basically everything.....wages (promised $22, made $17), housing (promised no rent, took $400 directly from cheque), work location (promised fort mac camp work on the petro canada refinery, worked at the edmonton location refinery), amount of hours (promised full work weeks with lots of overtime, actually worked mon-thurs then a half day on friday IF WE WANTED TO. Needless to say I had to move back home after that wonderful experience soaked up my last bit of cash.
Wow, that wasn't very short at all! Sorry about the thread hijack OP.
