After waiting a full year to get out hunting again I get permission to hunt an area that is supposed to hold a lot of deer. I get out there and see sign everywhere. Lots of tracks, some good sized rubs and a couple fresh scrapes. These signs have me pumped up. Problem is that's all I see all day...just sign and not the deer making them. Hopefully next time! Have to wait a whole week tho...stupid work!

Very cold mornings often leads to early AM activity. They're up and at 'em well before 1st light and it's possible you spooked them. I find in weather like that that afternoon hunts are usually non-productive unless you know where they're bedding since bucks will frequently bed down near a group of does.

Getting in a stand at 4am might be my next move in those circumstances.

Unfortunately I don't have any trail cams to put out but I'm going to keep at it and hope for the best.

The area I was in was 80 acres of bush. I had my cousin push some bush for me as its his property and he knew it the best. He said he saw fresh signs in the bush bu didn't see or hear anything. Prior to that I worked some fence lines and small openings where there was sign. I rattled a bit too in hopes that would draw something out.

The overnight temp was around -25. I thought that might get them moving and fueling up during daylight hours.
