S I have been reading about Winchester primers having leaking and pinhole issues. From what I have read it seems it is isolated to certain lots. Would anyone know a source for affected lot numbers or what year(s) the problems are associated with ?

Thanks

Got some older win primers in my supplies. Have not had any issues but wanted to make sure.

I gave away the remainder of a brick, after I experienced two ruptured primers out of the first 50 or so. The person that accepted them, was made aware of the issue, but took them anyways.

I badly damaged a firing pin and bushing in a revolver from a ruptured SR primer. Pretty lame since it was attached to a .357 Magnum cartridge +/-35,000PSI. I never did have any issues with their LR.

This happened to me some time ago with some large rifle primers. I contacted Winchester and they were great to deal with. I sent the primers back to them as well as some primed cases with a prepaid shipping label. They sent me a check to replace the primers and cases and also sent me a hat.. They told me to take the rifle to a gunsmith and offered to pay for any repairs which turned to be fine and not needed. If you get a bad bunch contact Winchester and send them back. There was a list somewhere with affected lot numbers, I just can't remember where it was.

This thread has some of the lot numbers

I imagine they are all long used up by now.

Lot# DEL690G and #DEL688G are on the above list. These WLR primers are also defective Lot#DEL691G. I loaded 400 of them before I realized there was problem and ended up having to dismantle those loads. Contacted Winchester gave them my information explained to them what was happening and the damage it caused. They were very receptive and helpful then later after that first phone call to them I couldn't get through to anyone in their company anymore. Obviously they were at a point where they weren't interested in replacing defective primers for their customers anymore never mind hearing about any more damaged bolt faces.

I've used Winchester large pistol primers for many years and never had a problem. Quite a few of their small pistol too, though mostly Federal and CCI there. As near as I can tell the problems are specific to Winchester rifle primers, no?

Update: I emailed Winchester with a claim form from their website ( Canada) and got a quick response. They are requesting I send all primers with a lot number beginning with " D" back to them. They will send me a shipping label and then reimburse me once they receive the primers.

I gave them a full list of my lot numbers and again only wanted the ones starting with " D " . My main concern was to identify the faulty lots before I damaged any firearms. A bit of money back is a plus as most likely it will be what I spent and not what they cost now.

Glad my stash of LRMP are ok lol...

Regardless of what they refund I will be getting rid of almost two bricks.

It appears that Winchester has had a few bad primer batches.

In my 50+ years of reloading, I have had the same defect in
CCI 200, Alcan LR, Federal 210, and RWS LR.

I believe it is due to the cup being a bit too thin at the radius.
I have been "lucky" with Winchester, and have not managed
to purchase any defective lots. Dave.

I have used plenty of Winchester primers of all sizes without any problem, the only primers I had problems with were some Fed. 210 primers I popped two at the edges that marked my bolt.
I still use Federal primers.

Wayy 8ack in the day, I had a couple Fed 210's rupture...damaged my 8olt face on my 243 Savage...replaced the head...I then switched to Win Primers...lock stock and 8arrel...WSR, WSP, WLP, WLR and WLRM....Never had an issue for 25+ years...till 2 weeks ago !!! I had 2 pierced primers within the first 10 test loads for my new 6.5PRC !!! 8oth on the lower end of the powder workup.

PIZZED OFF was an understatement !! Damaged the 8oltface some too. I thought, well....if I have to replace this one too, I'll keep shooting ! No more issues, only draw8ack is I can't replace the 8oltface...need a whole new 8olt 8ody !!

I'll have to my lot num8ers now. These are older primers too...always stored proper.

***excuse the 8's...my letter after A isn't working...lol
