I recall a feedback from you (in Shotgun World forum) on the Baikal IZH 94 12ga/.223 combo......can you share further experience on performance etc?

Moreover, do you have any experience with the IZH 94 .22/.410 combo?

Thanks,

There are 3 versions of the Baikal IZH-94 :

1. The scout gun : 410 and .22 cal

2. The Sever : 20 ga and .22 cal

3. The Taiga : 12 ga and 308 or 30.06 or 223 cal

I don't have any experience with the first two.

What I have is the 12 ga with 223. Here is what I wrote in the other forum :

I just purchased a Baikal IZH-94 combination over/under rifle/shotgun with 12 gauge (3 inch) upper barrel and 223 Rem lower.

Here are some pictures and notes:

1. The gun came with 3 screw in choke tubes for the shotgun barrel (F, M and IC). A wrench is provided.

2. The metal finish is world class. The blueing is the best I have seen on a Baikal so far. In fact, the blueing is at least as good as I have seen on any firearm.

3. Upon handling ,everything seems to be very solid (even more solid than the IZH-27 O/U shotgun). As if the whole thing is made of one block of steel.

4. The shotgun opens smoothly. It closes nice and tight. Metal to metal fit is perfect.

5. The utilitarian stock is made of walnut. Just like the IZH-27 (SPR 310), it is not artistically shaped. The wood finish is similar to the IZH-27 and the recoil pad is identical. However the checkering is better than the IZH-27's.

6. There is a regulating system to allow the two barrels point of impact to coincide. The barrel lenght is 600mm (23.5 ").

7. The sights are adjustable. A scope rail and sling swivels are standard equipment.

My first impression is of a solid, rigid, durable and well made compact hunting gun. I look forward to test fire it during the coming weeks.

Since then I had the opportunity to test fire a few rounds from both barrels.

The gun is a little bit on the heavy side but it sure is solid. The short overall lenght comes in handy (good when hunting in a dense forest).

The front trigger fires the smoothbore barrel. The rear trigger fires the rifled.

Felt recoil is average for a 12 ga.
Felt recoil for the 223 is very mild. Almost like firing a .22 cal.

My first impression is confirmed : This gun is gonna last a long time.

Here are the pictures of my IZH-94:

Thanks for the response.

I also checked out one at Epps.....nice wood to metal fit, balance etc. Iron sights are not too bad either on this model. How accurate is the rifle bbl? Moreover, how did the shotgun pattern?
