I'm looking at getting a Beikal Artemida 45-70 for close range Moose and Caribou. Does anyone have one or know anything about them? Information on the web it pretty slim. I saw one at a local dealer a few years ago and I was impressed, especially with the sub 1k price...

I will prefix this with the "I could be wrong" but I heard these rifles are only recommended to 28000 psi in 45-70, which precludes any kind of stiff load at all and basically leaves them with factory Trapdoor Springfield loads.
If anyone knows different enlighten me, but this is the info I have.

Then he can still use the 525 gr BTPD boolit - just got to cut back on the amount of H322 then. LOL Prob penetrate better anyhow a bit slower - The 45-70 works that way ! RJ :)

I've been told that the manual adjust to regulate the barrels is a really nice feature of these rifles. It allows for a wider spread of ammunition to be used as you can tune the barrels to the load.

As for Baikals in general they are roughly made but it's nothing that a good de-burring and polishing can't fix. They're built very Russian in style.

I have one and love it. Yes its rated for 28000CUP. So its a mid range pressure gun. Its a baikal so it will take more then 28000cup I'm sure. They are light and based on a shotgun frame. Same as my skeet/hunting sxs. At 50 yards I'm putting 2 shots from each barrel into a 1 1/2" cluster. The barrels do regulate for horizontal spread. The clicks are very precise and accurate. I was shooting factory remington express 405gr loads in to small groups. I also shoot hornady leverevolution ammo. Both barrels grouped well but 6" apart. The fit and finish isn't the best. The gun is stiff and the triggers are heavy. It is a hunting gun. I bought mine for bear over bait and stalking type hunting. It has an 11mm dovetail rib for scope mounting with base stop hole. I have an airgun base with rings and stop pin. Works great and holds extremely tight. I have it holding a bsa 2.5x20 scope. Its ultra fast clear and repeatable. I'm planning to handload for mine with hornady 350gr FP interlocks. This is a fun gun to shoot. It is the cheapest way to get a sxs double. It is not a purdy or holland n holland but if I scratch it I will not cry and if need be I can use it as a war club or paddle. I got mine from epps. Great ppl. Good luck
