baikal mp scout good or bad

I held one at a gunshow and was disappointed. The action felt very stiff. Maybe the gun wasn't broken in or maintained  ?

I had high hopes for this gun because I love the concept of the M6 scout, but after holding a baikal I can't see myself ever purchasing one.

Any chance we see a comback of the M6 scout? Has savage's 22/410 been discontinued? Rossi combo guns seem hard to comeby in Canada, anyone know of an online dealer?

looking at a baikal mp scout .22/410 for grouse hunting, can't find many comments on them, looks like to #### it and break the barrel there is a release on the trigger guard. Anybody out there own one.

I had owned two over the past years. IMO, it is a very well made takedown combo gun. Moreover, unlike the Savage Model 24 it is also a double action firearm in a manner of speaking.

The lever on the trigger guard needs to be pressed to open the breech which simultaneously cocks the action for the first shot. Subsequently, the lever has to be pressed again to fire the second shot. The barrel selector is fashioned after a tang safety. The safety button itself is located at the back of the trigger guard.

The .22 barrel was very accurate in both specimens that I had owned although the design of the iron sights left more to be desired. However, that did not impact performance in any way.

The caveat may be the proper regulation of the .410 barrel - in my case, both shot high from point of aim. However, I do not consider that much of a showstopper as this is not a firearm that has been primarily designed for wingshooting. A such, one could always learn to compensate for taking stationary birds :). Comes with four screw-in chokes.

I am hoping that I would be more fortunate with the regulation issue the third time as I want to get another. Overall, it's a fun little combo gun.

I had a Baikal Single shot rifle, the lever you have to pull to open the action is made of plastic, It would not be fun to drop it and have that break.

TS - are you absolutely sure that its not metal? Funny how that slipped my scrutiny as I thought it was metal as I had bruised my knuckles on that protuberance quite a few times and finally had to wrap a piece of soft leather around that. Seemed to me that the only plastic type component on the combo gun is the barrel band integral to the front sight that secures the muzzle ends of the two bbls.

May not be out of place to mention that I had also owned the IZH-18MH rifle in .308 and the sights were far better designed and very accurate out to 200 yards.

AA, Can you comment on the durability of the cocking handle? I never actually shot my Baikal, it went soon after arrival to pay for a shotgun.

All along I thought it was metal (still think it is metal) but now you have me second guessing :)....will have to look very closely. I must say though it would be hard to damage that lever unless the firearm was somehow dropped down so as to land lever first on a very hard surface.
