Anybody have one. I've been looking to get one and was looking at a Mosberg before reading many reviews and deciding I won't be touching that one. Anybody had experience with the Baikal O/U
 
I had 2 of the older USSR marked guns. They were well built, had a selector for ejector or extractor and the fit/finish on them was a lot nicer than later produced guns stamped Russia. Supposedly, a little more care was taken in the production of the older USSR stamped guns that were for export to North America.

Absolutely true!!!! I have a Baikal O/U rifle/shotgun combo: very nice to handle, very accurate, and I don't mind "banging it around the bush" either. Only complaints: it took 100 shotgun shells to smooth out the break action, and the transition of sighting from rifle to shotgun is great, but takes practice.

If I wanted a solid, accurate "beater" shotgun I would buy a Baikal in a heartbeat. Remember that looks are not everything in a firearm: that function and purpose means a lot.
 
love the Baikals. My uncle has a O/U and it has served him well for 30 years. I've had a SxS for about 20 years and it's still one of my go to shotguns... and I've got Browning, Winchester, Beretta, CZ, and more to choose from. It's simple, and it works. I never worry about nicks or scratches. For a utility shotgun, I can't think of anything better.
 
I have a Baikal sxs in 45-70. Every time I take it to the range people comment on how great it looks. Incredible value for the dollars spent.
 
As some others have suggested, I would recommend you find an older USSR model. They seem to me to be much nicer than the newer models. Ignore the marketing BS, they are good shotguns.
