Gentlemen; I just received a very nice baikal 12 bore o/u from Anthony at trade ex. (shameless plug he is a contributing dealer) I hope I can afford another before they are gone. Please take a look, these are VERY well built guns and affordable prices. Of course us Canucks have known that for years...

P.S. customer service top knotch
as usual

cheers Darryl

I never purchased a rifle or shotgun from them, but did get the quickest shipping I ever seen on a front sight tool a week ago. Was impressed with the almost over night delivery.

GO HABS GO !!!

I have bought 4 hand guns and 3? shot guns from him.
as a dealer he is super and quick you fix a problem with
one, sent me a replacement trigger group free.
super good prices.

I just picked up a Baikal o/u ( model IJ-12) at a local gun show yesterday. A friend of mine had one which I really enjoyed using, so when I had the chance I picked one up myself for $350. That seems to be the general price range for a used one, and I get a kick out of the "Made in the USSR" inscription on the receiver.

I am NOT an expert, but in my experience with the older Baikal's they do seem to be solid guns. Don't expect the same options and performance of a $1000+ gun, but as an entry level U/O they do seem to be worth the money.

I don't have any experience with the newer Baikal's however. They do look nice though.
:)

Dak.

I've had my Baikal O/U for over 20 years. At the time I chose it over a host of others costing twice as much at the time because it was the best balanced and best fitting of the bunch (for me). It may not be a Ruger Red Label or Browning Citori, but it's one fine shooting shotgun.

ebruder, did you buy the open hammer SXS they had on their site? If so, let me know if you're ever ready to part with it. That goes for anyone else who has a Baikal 12 ga. open hammer SXS, too.

My opinion of Baikals in general is that they are exceedingly well built for the price.

They tend to be poorly fit and the finish leaves much to be desired as well. The fit is so bad in some cases that the wood will be proud of the metal by 1/8" above the lock and 1/16" proud below the same lock. The finish on the metal parts also tends to be rough. But, they do put more effort into the guns that they price a bit higher, such as their U/O's. There's a place in my gun room for Baikal because I like to experiment and develop new smithing skills. I'm not about to take a "best" gun and start practicing on it.

I love SXS's. I love double triggers. And, I love open hammers. Baikal offers me all of this in a gun that I don't have to worry about ruining while I experiment with refinishing techniques. I've refinished one so far, and it came out looking WAY better afterwards than it did stock. I'm confident that the next one will look even better.

My advise to anyone considering the puchase of a Baikal is, do it. You won't regret it. You won't get ripped off (I've never seen one for sale for too much). You won't make anything on the deal, either (don't buy because it looks cheap and you think you can sell for more later - that's all their worth on the market). But, you will get a durable and reliable gun. If you decide to sell it later, you'll get your money out of it.

Not a gun that will turn heads at the range, but a gun that deserves more respect than it gets, IMO.

I been thinkin of pickin one up also, simply because I always wanted an O/U, but really never have the $$$$ to buy one. I should have bought one before Armrus went out of business. He was selling them off at $250. Are the older models better than the newer ones?????? Do they come in only Full/Full and Full/ Mod, those are the only ones I have seen.

The older Baikals (like the one I purchased) seem to be a little less course than the new ones. Tradeex has a variety of chokings in stock. Some are full and full and some are full/mod. Mine is CYL over IMP CYL which I think is odd. Generally you would expect the tighter barrel to be on top. I just cleaned her up and rubbed some blo on the wood. Points every bit as nice as any of the Citoris I have owned. The sling swivels will take some getting used to but I am leaving them on it.

cheers Darryl

I always wanted one, but honestly no nothing about shotguns. Which cyl. combination is the best if I want to shoot at clays ?? and maybe also use it for small game. Can you shoot steel shot wit it ???

ONE MORE TO GO !!!!!
GO HABS GO !!!

Wow!

Straightshooter... no it has internal hammers...

It just got here, and I have to say I'm impressed...

If I can talk my wife into going to the range with me later to throw some clays for me... I'll let you know how it shoots!

I have to echo what so many else say on here... Anthony underestimates the condition of the guns on his web site... mine was rated as VG... but other than a small nick (about 1mm) it is as if it was new... if someone told me it had never been fired, I would be inclined to believe them!

I'll get back to you with a range report hopefully later today...

So I got out to the range today...
