I finally had a chance to fire this rifle after I bought it last fall. I spent the winter figuring out how I was going to scope it. I decided on the new Bushnell Elite DOA scope with Weaver rings and an 11 mm adaptor to the Weaver Mount, I drilled and tapped the adapter with an extra set screw that falls between a gap in the SPRs rail. It seems to be pretty solid; the scope held true while I was sighting the scope and firing for groups.

The gun fired well with the 150 grain, winchester factory ammo I purchased, no misfires. I made sure that I snapped the action closed with authority as some of the reviews have stated that the cocking mechanism won't function unless the action is closed sharply. The trigger pull was heavy probably well over 10 lbs, but was adequate for a hunting rifle. I will need to do a trigger job if I want to make this thing into a tac driver. Also, silly me I forgot my shooting rest so I had to use the closed gun case and the sling as a shooting rest.. not the best setup for accurate shooting. Overall, I am happy with this little rifle. I think with a proper shooting rest and a lighter trigger pull I will be able to improve these groups significantly.

That's the first 270 12 gauge I ever saw.........

A ridicule may have been better placed once one had first hand knowledge of how the firearm performed.

FYI, the single shot is not pretty but built well and groups very well indeed with open sights out to 150 yards. I've tried a .308 Win with two different cartridge brands (150gr) - both shot under 2inches. Excellent for what it has been designed for.

Last I looked, two different (and well known) gunsmiths in ON were building .470NE doubles on Beretta 20ga receivers - so they ought to be called 20ga double rifles? Moreover, should one look around quite a few well known brands in Europe use a 20ga shotgun as their base for doubles - both o/u and sxs.

The problem with occasional misfires (when it exists at all) improves with use as the locking mechanism smooths up. If you don't snap it closed smartly enough, you can push down on the locking lever. I honed the underlug on my Baikal to improve things. The trigger is relatively easy to work on but takes a bit of cutting and trying. I would prefer an exposed hammer rather than the trigger mounted safety but, all in all, I like the rifle. If I could still see iron sights reasonably well, I wouldn't scope it. It's a handy little rifle unscoped. Regards, Bill
