Great gun my friend owns 1, has put over 2000 rounds threw it only problem was at first It wouldn't shoot the low brass loads but after a few boxes of 3 inch shells it throws them out now.

Are talking about the one with the outside choke? I got one from Armrus, before they closed down... It's got a beautifull piece of wood on it. But I still have to shoot it!

I needed another semi-automatic shotgun like I need a kick in the but... Ho well, I have one more choice in the safe...

Mike.

Have seen lots of favourable comment on the Baikal MP153 on the forums below the border. Most noteable: " good value for the money" and "very reliable". Sorry, but it's only hearsay ! No direct experiance.

I have one for sale, new and unfired, black synthetic. They are great guns, a guy owed me some money, so I got the gun...... now I need the cash.
$500 plus shipping. It is new but has no original packaging, Manual and chokes are included.

The one that ARMRUS sold with the outside choke is an Izhmash shotgun not a Baikal. They look quite similar though.

Izhevsky Mekhanichesky Zavod ( IZH MEK ) is the Russian ( Izhevsk)Manufacturer of "Baikal" (brand) firearms. They manufacture a part of their line for Remington under the Remington brand name "Spartan" for sale in the US.

IZH IMPEX is the exclusive importer of the Baikal line into Canada. Same Baikal guns - different importer.

IZH Impex website: www.baikalcanada.com

Allow me to make some corrections:

BAIKAL

The name of the factory is IZHMEKH.
They produce guns with the names beginning with IZH or MP
website : www.baikalinc.ru
distributor in Canada : www.baikalcanada.com

IZHMASH

The name of the factory is IZHMASH.
They are the makers of the Kalashnikov assault rifle.
Their hunting/sporting guns include Los, Sobol, Biathlon, Saiga etc.
website : www.izhmash.ru
The importer used to be Armrus in Montreal (no longer in business).

TOZ

The name of the factory is TULA ARMS PLANT.
They make guns with the names beginning with TOZ or MC ( or MTs)
website : www.tulatoz.ru
The importer used to be Armrus.

There are other Russian manufacturers but their products are not available here in Canada.

Well done Mike.

TSKIB SOO is now owned by KBP.
The website is www.shipunov.com
KBP makes mostly military weapons (missiles and rockets). On their web site you will find the hunting/sporting guns section www.shipunov.com/eng/str/prod_str.htm

I will add one more manufacturer.

MOLOT

They make the Bekass shotguns and Vepr rifles.
The website is www.molot.biz/product-e/

Last year I saw a Bekass semiauto being offered at a gun auction (I think it was Valleyguns). I don't know if there is an importer here in Canada. Does anyone have any information?

i have recently purchased a 153 but will have to be sending it to epps for service likely as the ejected shells have dimpled primers when cycling the action. my research before i purchased mine had led me to believe it is actually a very good shotgun. however i will not be able to give you a firsthand account until i actually fire mine. remington has picked up the model and is marketting it in the states for whatever that is worth. it shoots up to 3 1/2" shells as well. one gun dealer i talked to who deals in an awful lot of shotguns said it cannot be beat for the money (same as stoeger etc). i tore mine down and it seemed to be mechanically simple, which is a good thing in my opinion. i'll let you know in a couple of weeks hopefully, but if you go on google and type baikal 153 you will find lots of info in the meantime. oh, and the wood finish really doesn't hold up like american arms, but i don't mind as a light coat of teak and tung oil shines it up nicely giving it a look i prefer.

Well that clears it up. I knew the MC-21 was not a Baikal. Not made as well either:)

Tozman,

I checked out Ellwood Epps like you suggested and they do have the MP-153 and at a better price than anywhere in Montreal.

By paying only 1 tax I should save about $189.00. Not bad. Thanks for the heads up on Ellwood Epps.

I'm also looking for an MP-153 in Montreal... Dante sells them at $650+tx which is way outta my budget. Valerie (ArmRus) also sold them for around $600 back when he was still open... I looked up the price at Epps and it's still around $619+1tx (28" barrel, synthetic stock), which would add up to about $650 + shipping... Still expensive... That's why I've been looking for second hand ones... If anyone has any to sell, PM me...

This will be my second gun (first is a Toz-78), my first shotgun, so I've been doing my homework for a good price/quality shotgun, as you might have guessed. I need something simple & reliable, and versitile too, and nothing even compares to the 153 in all these aspects... Price is a huge factor, so I'm looking at saving every cent that I can...

Try Terrebonne Chasse et Pêche. That is where I got mine.

He is a Baikal dealer (referred to me by Baikal Canada) and he does sell used ones. I got my MP-153 from them, used but in excellenet condition.

They are on the partner list on the Baikal Canada website:

I purchased an MP-153 last week at Dante Sports (November 23). The gun was black synthetic stock for $599.95. With the two taxes (GST 6% + PST 7.5%) the gun came to $683.65.

I also called Epps and the breakdown was $619 for the gun + $30 shipping + 6% GST which comes to $687.94

So I decided to shop local and went to Dante.
