Baikal single shot rifle

I sell tools for a living. I sell several levels of quality as well. I tell my customers "there are no cheap tools-they either work or they dont. How much money you pay usually dictates how well they work, how long they last, and how easy they are to use". Hard to beat a well designed tool made of quality materials.

And I've toiled in machine/welding shops and manufacturing plants for most of my working life.

There is nothing "cheap" about the Baikal rifle I bought (except the price.) If anything, it's overbuilt.

I may try to smooth out and lighten the trigger pull a bit, but otherwise it is a really nice firearm.

The barrels are hammer-forged and I have read somewhere that Steyr built them for Baikal. I can't confirm that though.

I just wish they had a Weaver rail on top of the receiver instead of that damn Euro rail.

I had one in .308 Win that grouped under 2inches @ 100 yards with open sights. The single shot rifles (with take-down capability) are a very good value if one has healthy eyesight and not looking to shoot target/game at long ranges.....I understand that mounting optics may somewhat be a challenge.

I recall mention of the same on the Baikal Forum (ShotgunWorld dot com).

Just wish they'd make one in 9.3x74 with weaver mounts. I shot one once a guy had àt the club he was swearing and yelling at it said it wouldn't shoot at 50yards he couldn't hit a piece of paper. I took 3 shots with it all were almost touching. He packed up his things and left. I love baikal but there singles are ugly. However if they chambered one in a caliber I'd like to try I'd buy one. I prefer tje look of the hnr just wish they were all case colour hardend

I'd be happy with one in .303 British. Preferably optimized for the 180 gr. Federal Hi-Shok loading.:)

It would certainly be a lot more affordable than the Ruger #1 in .303 British that some of the boys here brought into reality.
