Its been a long while since the introduction of the Baikal SxS rifles with only the 30/06 seen available in Canada. I've noticed that Remington no longer advertises their (Baikal) SxS but still has the single shot in their catalog.
Anyone have any personal experiences with their 30/06 SxS that they would care to share?
Were they really that poorly built as to not have any supporters?
Any warranty problems that haven't been rectified?
Just wondering if they are going to just slowly disappear into extinction as an under $1000 poor mans double.
All views and observations are gladly received.

Guess you can or could get a 45-70 ordered from the rep in Ontario.
The barrels have one fixed , the other floats and has a lock screw.Guess their not bad shooters. Thats all I know about that  not much :D
Found this on a link from a post on here, boxing day sales

ROA ... what finally happened with your Baikal ??? I had a high end gunsmith in B.C. put a brass bead on mine and make the rear sight into a shallow V ... I still like the gun and while waiting patiently for a 45/70 ... I doubt if they will ever appear - for whatever the reason might be ???

I spoke to the Australian distributor and they're having problems all round, including with the O/U express rifles which were allegedly going to appear in 9.3x74R.
The gist of it with the O/Us seems to be barrel strength.
They're using the same bbl for the 9.3mm as they did for the 30-06 and 308 but boring it out 1.68mm more for the bigger calibre.
Understandably the bigger bore leaves much less metal to support things.
If they increase the bbl size then they have to muck with the action itself and you begin to find weaknesses there because they have to machine it bigger.
The 45-70 Artemida on the other hand has presented lots of pressure problems from day one.
Apparently only 2 were built, at least according to the Aussie distributor, and they blew one to smitherines while trying to test it up to the 45k psi mark, a fairly moderate chamber pressure for a modern gun.
With the obvious legal problems and potentional loss of sales that could result from a brainless American citizen blowing themselves up they sat back for a rethink on their entire approach.
So for those who are waiting patiently for their Baikal 9.3x74R O/U Express rifle or their 45-70 Artemida SxS you'd better be REALLY patient! :(
