Baited Tree Stand

I agree with most of the posters it is obviously being used with bait being in front I wouldn't use it. and agree if it was old and no bait and I liked the area I might give it a try. The bush is huge and so there is no need move on to another place you may find a better spot you never know!!! Good luck

Its public land, first come first to use it....Imagine if I had a lot of time on my hands and went out and put 5 or 6 tree stands/ladders on one piece of public hunting land in my area....It would not be fair because most government land you can hunt in my area are some blocks consiting of 50-200 acres....Where is everyone that shows up supposed to hunt...Public land should not allow permanent blinds in the first place....portables only should be the law and taken down at the end of the day at least in my neck of the woods where the biggest parcel might be 200 acres....
If you do not want to have others hunting out of your tree stand go build it on private land......

Thanks for the input. It was cold and rainy so slept in and really didn't have to worry! It looks like a freshly placed stand. I stumbled across it while following tracks for an afternoon the other day. Quite a few tracks converged on the area. And it wasn't more than a 5 minute hike in from a road. For myself I have a difficult time getting out in December (retail gets busy!) and a ready made spot would have made it much easier. Personally if I had one set up on public land I guess if I found someone in it I hope that they would leave if I showed up, and it would be used if I wasn't there. But I can also see how someone would take "ownership" of the site and feel their area to be threatened. Being new to this I'm not sure of the unwritten codes. I plan on getting an earlier start next year!

If someone is baiting then stay clear. I can't say I'd be happy to find someone too lazy to build and bait their own stand sitting in mine. I frequently leave baited stands unoccupied for up to a week to allow game to get comfortable with the stand and feed. You also don't want to be tracking your scent around ruining somone else's hunt.
