Well, I got my deer all cut up, so I wanna toss the "left overs" out in the field to try and lure some dogs out. Should I just toss the whole carcass out in the field, or should I cut it in half, and through it out in sections at diffrent times?

I reccomend sections because they will keep coming back if they know there will be more to come. It doenst take long for a pack of wild dogs to clean up a carcass.

You can always put it in different areas if you educate the rest of them.

better yet, do you live anywheres near a feed lot or other cattle farmers? the farmer should have a dead pile somewheres you can shoot off of. Let him know you are interested next time he has a dead animal.

It could open up opportunites to hunt deer or whatever else on his property.

We chuck all our deer cutting scraps, bone, fat, etc into a bananna box. Chuck a pail of water on the thing when it gets cold. Place this baby in a field/pasture frequented by yotes and sit back in a rock or brush pile a couple days later... mornings and sunset are best. Magpies and ravens have a tough time cleaning the scraps up as it's frozen in a block. More for the coyotes. Good luck!

Do the sections because if they come in and clean it up in one night you wont have any left like said above me, once they rely on it as food supply they will keep coming back.

If it is cold you can stake them to the ground and pour water on them to freeze them solid. I do this with beaver carcasses (the best coyote bait!) it prevents the coyotes from dragging them off to a secluded spot to enjoy their meal in safety.
I am watching my bait right now....

your in your house watching the bait?do you just open door and blast away?

lmao......is your name lynn?
its just that i know a guy that hunt,s that way..he dont believe in road hunting either:p

I actually go outside to shoot... most of the time! Coyotes are pests and what the heck is the difference if I drive ten miles or walk ten feet? They are Varmints and there are lots of them to go around.
Oh yeah and nothing wrong with road hunting... I just can't do it in my area and I am jealous!;)
I have posted these pics before. One is the bathroom the other is my bedroom... kitchen, dining room and the family room all have the same view.
I have moved my office into the dining room so I can work and hunt at the same time....

Nice set up Big Redd, I put corn in the bottom end of my backyard and nail crows in the warmer months. Damn birds are smart, they won't even caw near my place and after you take a couple they post a gaurd on you.

doubt it, that Tikka would melt in the sun! :p

Good one T/B.. frakken cheap-ass Tikkas... that is why my Browning Varminter is my go to rifle now. Thank dog it ain't a Remmy.:D :p

Regardless of firearm.. shooting dogs over bait from the house is not really hunting in the real sense. I like to get out and call for them and I also like to walk them up after a fresh snow. Following tracks and shooting coyotes that you have stalked is very difficult and rewarding.

If you're going to bait coyotes make sure you anchor the bait to a tree or something and watch you scent. Fur Fish and Game had an excellent article on baiting coyotes a few months back if you can find it it will be worth the read.

cayippe baiting

I remember a few years back we had two of the best set ups I have ever hunted over first was a 3yr old bull moose that had been shot but survived later to die during the deer season. The wardens took it to a deadend road and we shot coyotes for almost a month over it. Second was the deal we had at the chicken farmers.....and he did not mind us shooting over his dead pile that was added to daily......like many have already stated get your bait tied down. I noticed this year someone poached a small bear and pulled it within 100yards of my deer set up....moved the deer right the hellout of there:mad: anyway I was on there a couple of weeks ago and the friggin 'ol dogs have it spread over devils half acre.....sure made for some nice dog shooting.....
