Baiting Deer in BC

lol. CO doesnt have much experience then. I have salt licks which I dont even have to maintain anymore and the deer still use them. I regularly salted a hardwood stump for about 5 years and its now saturated. I havent salted it for 2 years now and it is still used often.

I dont actually hunt the stump itself, its there simply to keep the animal in the area.

In my pic, that uprooted alder bunch used to sit next to a large hollowed out stump I put salt it, the stump was gone within a couple years, now the alders have been uprooted and moved about 10ft. The ground is about 2ft lower now too in a 15ft radius.

I put the salt/mineral lick out to help the animals in the area as well, I have noticed better antler growth as well

Looks like I'm assuming your opinion is different lol

Any advice for a first timer who just wants to put meat in the freezer?

I would think a salt licks around Kamloops would probably work but can't see it working on the coast
I have step brothers that put out salt liks fore moose sum times
I would still advise you to make a deer call no matter wear your hunting in BC
A small disclaimer I have never used my home made calls on deer other then on Haida Gwaii

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I have found loads of tracks and deer scat in a new area I'm thinking to hunt, it has limited access, water in a meadow you can only walk to and a nice little Valley. So I'm thinking of putting bait in there because everything else seems to be already lined up. It's also in an area I saw tons of game last year.

I can see an established salt lick, where it becomes habit forming over years.

I was referring to a pile of oats.

interesting , I believe in MB the only animals you are allowed to bait are black bears. Wonder what each provinces reasons are

It would seem to me everyone that doesn't bait deer or is against it anyways, really doesn't understand the concept.......

Throwing oats apples, carrots etc out for deer doesn't make them flock to your area....... The purpose of baiting IMOP is to give existing deer a reason to stop at a certain location on a regular basis...... And it isn't going to do sweet FA for bucks in the rut..... They won't care about the bait..... But they will after the rut is done and they need to replenish their fat for the winter...... Just ask this guy......

You don't have to bait bear in order to be successful in BC, but we have a distinct lack of mountains with grassy slopes in the prairie provinces (east of Calgary anyhow). You can bait wolf and coyote in MB as well.

Apples, Cob (corn oats barley) and chicken feed all work as deer attractants. Haven't had to bait per se but a bold mama will walk right into my barn. Last year I couldn't be asked to get every single apple so some fall off and it worked well.

I asked on here a few years back, and I believe that every province with a deer season allows baiting except Alberta and Manitoba.
