So I was out again today to another spot, that one of the bowhunters suggested to me. I got up in the stand, and was able to see over his fence he built to encourage the deer to come in broadside, and I noticed that he had a smashed pumpkin and a salt lick there.

I was unsure if this is considered baiting (since I was not the one to put it there) and if it was or was not legal for a rifle hunter to bait in the first place. For safety's sake I left and went to another stand.

Am I ok to rifle hunt a stand that is baited or should I remove the salt lick and pumpkin pieces the next time I walk through to be able to hunt that stand?

Just looked through the 2011 hunting summary, to no avail. And my hunting course was more then a decade ago, don't flame me to bad.

It is perfectly legal to bait whitetail in Ontario.... and let me tell you, this time if year, your bait wont bring in a buck... but it may bring in a doe that will bring in a buck..... I use a bit of corn here and there just to make 'em pause in front of the trail cams...... I never shoot does... that is just a personal rule... but I also spend hours and hours in stand and own the land I hunt on.....

You are perfectly legal to hunt a baited stand. I've been baiting for about a week now and they're hitting apples pretty good but not touching the corn. The 6 point I shot this am was 10 yards from the bait although it is an exception to the rule about bucks over bait this time of year. If you're lucky though the buck will follow the does in. ;)
