In fairly close proximity to one of my archery stands, there's an old apple tree. I thought before I move some apples a little closer, I'd best inquire as to the legality. A rep from the game branch in Victoria informed me, the only game I couldn't bait for are Bear and migratory birds.

Good move - and I used to hunt whitetail, mulies and moose in B.C.

We have a cottage in Quebec, live in Ontario and a non- resident licence is about $265 and only good for a buck. We use the cottage every in the winter and feed the birds all year. We have deer around all winter.

BUT - you would not believe the pallet piles of apples all over beccause of the enormous demand to bait all fall up until the season, usually early November. Not only that, rectangular hay bails are also stacked too along with the apples.

I have several great day time pics taken out of the cottage window with a canny deer. I will post them to this thread next week.

Last summer was the only one of the last 6-10 years that the black bears
have not been a real menace. Indeel the images that I will post of the deer tipping a large bird feeder suspended high was taken down the following summer by a black bear! The bird feeders were then suspended ftom a high close line and a $40 steel and plastic feeder was demolished as well as other feeders and a weather vane.

Bears I respect! Go figure.

Thanks for giving this verbose old guy a chance to keep his two index fingers working.:D
