Didn't see a wildlife section so figured I would post here.

Spooked it before I could get a picture, but it seems as though the big birds are migrating to my neighborhood.

I have seen eagles nesting from south of Bruce Penninsula to Kenora. Every area we have hunted moose across the north has had nesting areas... we watch the birds fishing and in a couple locations we leave the heads and entrails of the fish we clean on rock points for the birds. Last spring when turkey hunting, there was an eagle sitting in a tree eyeballing my decoys... I kept an eye on him/her so that I didn't loose a decoy.

There are a lot of ospreys around too;

Yes eagles are all across Ont, some areas have quite a few and others are sparse but I think their numbers are going up. I've seen them all across Ont and no not just during the reg migration. Actually just seen one a week ago right smack dab in the middle of S Ont. in the middle of a wheat field eating something, took some pics but they didn't turn out, it was way to far for good pics.

I see them a lot around the St. Clair River south of Sarnia.
Watched one eating on a seagull a month ago. Missed the catch, but say a very unhappy seagull fighting to get away for a while before the eagle landed and put it out of its misery.

very cool

Nice to hear they're making a comeback in Ontario, growing up as a kid there in the 80's & 90's I don't remember seeing any regardless of where we were fishing or camping etc. It's one of the things I really enjoy about living in BC, there are so many bald and golden eagles to see.

It is always exciting to see wildlife for the first time or the umpteenth .
I see Bald Eagles a Raven several thousand Black and Grey Bellied Brant daily along with a mating pair of Peregrine Falcons..well I dont see those daily.
We even have a nesting pair of transplanted Barn Owls to assist in rodent control only wished the feral rabbits where in an area that I could assist in population control.
We have this large composting facility in Metro Vancouver formerly the GVRD where on a daily basis one can count upwards of 50 Eagles...
Enjoy the sights and smells of nature...and No the composting facility isnt natural nor does it smell fresh , grrr.

I've seen them up and down the Grand River and photographed them nesting in Tillsonburg, Brantford, Cambridge, etc. I took this shot a few years ago in Cambridge. They are awesome birds and it's wonderful to see them back in this area.

their face has that look of "this is my tree, piss off" awesome picture!

Oh yeah. When getting this shot, I was trying to sneak around the corner of a building and the neighbour's two shepherds went ballistic. This alerted the eagle to my presence but it didn't fly away; it just looked directly at me like, "Try something and I guarantee you'll get the worst end of it!"

They are repopulating their former Ontario range at a pretty good rate. It wasn't until 10 or 15 years after I moved to Sudbury that I saw my first one here, and in the 25 years since that first sighting they have become relatively common here.

At our cottage on the Ottawa River we have Bald Eagles that nest in a large pine on an island across from us, they are clearly visible when you pull into the bay on the west side of the island and you can float there watching them. Most years they have a 2 or 3 young ones that you can watch grow and start to fly throughout the summer.

A few nest along the Grand down by my place in Galt, but the best group I've seen was on the way to Sault Ste Marie last fall, dozens along the Garden and St Marys rivers, beautiful sight to see.

I get tired of chasing them off my runways. Even more tired of cleaning up the rotting fish they leave.

It's fun with new employees though. "Hey can you go get that fish off the runway for me? Thanks."

"But... but... how did a fish... but.... huh?"

"Heavy rains last night. "

"Oh..."

I hunt along the Nith river from around Kingwood to New Hamburg and see lots of bald eagles all along the river. They've made a great comeback in the area in the past 5-6 years.
