Bald Eagle on Scugog Island Ontario!

I remember the first one I saw as a kid. I had just finished a school project on the "majestic" bald eagle in all of its perceived holiness and glory. Then I see this ratty thing picking away at my neighbor's dead cat that's been road kill rotting in the middle of the road for three days...

I did have one "majestic" encounter though, wife and I were canoeing the Grand when a baldy did the classic fish pluck about ten feet in front of us. Pretty cool to watch that without having to hear David Suzuki narrating it.

There are established bald eagle nesting sites on the Otonabee north of Lakefield, and on Percy Reach on the Trent.
One lived at the Haliburton ON dump much of the winter.
A few years ago I saw a family of golden eagles just north of Kinmount ON. Didn't know these lived in ON.

I suppose Scugog Island might not be well known, but I am only a half hour north of Oshawa-quite south compared to most responses.

Lake Scugog is pretty much one end of the trent severn waterway

We've had so many problems with Osprey in our town that we have built them tall nesting poles to encourage them to nest there instead of blowing up our power line transformers by making nests on those poles. Many of the power poles now have tin a-frame roofs on them so the birds can't nest there. Tons of eagles as well.

Lots of ospreys around the lakes here. Seen a few eagles in the winter a few times.

I really notice more Owls lately though.

Seen a pair of snowy owls while coyote hunting one evening. Have a great horned that I have seen while turkey hunting. They always see me first and take off before I get a picture.

This is "Farley".

He comes to spend the winter with us each year, and keeps the wee critters at bay. He's been good around the aircraft for the most part. Keeps his distance. Although he did sit on my anemometer and broke it...
