Ball powder for 30-06

Looking for a powder that will measure well in a Dillon 650 powder measure to load 30-06 => plinking vs precision vs hunting loads :sniper:

Just want to know if there's something "acceptable" to produce decent loads that is not an extruded powder (which I won't run in the Dillon)

Suggestions ?

Hodgdon BL-C2. I loaded my 30-06 with this stuff for years. 30-30 and .308 too.

Nice powder to work wth, reasonable velocities. Just a tad on the dirty side.

All you can do is try different powders and see what works for you. These are a just few powders that fall within a suitable burn rate for the .30-06.
 
I, tooo, load ball power for rifle ammo in my 650. Have loaded about 500,000 rounds of 308 with a powder similar to H335. Win748 would also work well. This was for match ammo laoding 155 gr bullets.


If I was loading a 30-06 for hunting, i would probably settle on teh 180 gr bullet for everything and test both Win 748 and 760 (H414) and see which worked best.

By the way, an extruded powder that works very well in the 650 is RL15 and it is well suited to the 30-06.
 
Win 748 works well in 30-06 with 150, 165, and 180 gr bullets.

Win 760 works very well with 180 gr bullets but seems it might be a bit slow for the lighter bullets.
 
I rarely hunt with a 30-06 (although I own a few) anymore. I still load for a friend's for hunting purposes. Use a 150gr Barnes X over RL19. Works well, although not the best metering powder out there. We went with the 150 over the 165 or 180 simply because of accuracy. I couldn't get any other hunting bullet to group as well in his rifle (Win 70 Ranger). FWIW - dan
 
Another powder you might consider is the newish Hybrid-100V from Hodgdon, which is an extruded powder with ball powder loading densities and a burning rate that is compatable with Re-19. It should be a good choice for heavy bullet hunting loads.

I use a powder similar to H335, and have for about 15yrs now. It is the only rifle powder on my bench and I buy it in bulk from Higginson's.
I have not loaded a half-million rounds with it but well into the double digit thousands. Although I only load for hunting, I get sub-MOA accuracy out of many of my rifles and can squeeze at least 2" from the rest.
This list includes .243, x39mm, .303, .308, and .30-06.
In my .30-06, I load 150gn Sierra game kings and they perform wonderfully, in my .303's I load 180gn Hornady bullets since they are used in bush areas. Should I decide to hunt Elk, then the .30-06 is stepped up to a 165. I may go to a 180 if I wanted moose but I doubt it. The 180's and 200's would, for me, be reserved for bear hunting, and I mean big bear hunting, not just black or browns.
