Hey Gunners,

I am wondering if someone can provide me with a Ballistics chart for Federal Premium .308 Sierra Match King HPBT 168 gr. Flying though a 20" barrel (1:11 Rate of twist-Tikka T3). I've plugged the numbers into JBM but haven't seen an area for barrel length. I am looking for bullet drop in inches from 0-1000yards with 100 yard intervals please.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The modern Sierra 168 is a short range bullet. (I say this becasue older 168s had a longer boattail and were not hollow point.) The Sierra 175 or 155 would do much better. With a 20" tube you have a 600 yard rifle with 168s. With 155 or 175 your rifle might be able to hit the target at 800.

It is a challenge to get a 308 shoot well to 1000 yards. Most will do well to 900, but the last 100 pushes the 308 to the limit. It can be done with a good bullet (not the Sierra 168) and a longer barrel (28" minumum). I use 30" and 32 " barrels and 155s. I have shot quite a few 308 bullets at 800 to 1200 yards in iron sighted target rifles. The only time I have ever seen 168s shot at 1000 were in 300 Magnums by one of the US military teams.

I have a 308 rifle with a cut down 22" target rifle barrel. I use it for load devlopment simulating some police rifles. It is very accurate. I note that with Norma Match ammo (Sierra 168) it developed 2460 fps. Norma is loaded with two full scoops of powder.

Here is a calculator that is easy to use. I am guessing your velocity would be in the order of 2400 to 2500 fps. There is no place to plug in barrel length. It is the velocity that changes with short barrels. The bullet BC is about .462

In theory the rifle would need about 40 minutes of elevation. A target rifle shooting 155s uses about 30 minutes.
